Usually its scammers but its really easy to get people on that list. I've been at smogon for about 9 years now and if i say someone did "x" they wont even bother checking and put them on the list if the person has a new account. I'm not going to lie i've done it a couple of times just for fun.

The retard genning dont know that some ivs are impossible to obtain due to how the game is programmed (at least in gen 5 and down). They will make it under 31 thinking that it'll look more legit and get caught. What these idiots don't realize is that an iv spread of 31 all across the board is perfectly valid.

Where does Smogon even draw the line ethically? They'll ban people for hacking, but cloning's perfectly fine?

Almost everyone who played competitively through gen 4&5 hacked their Pokemon anyway, especially on Smogon.

You have to claim the pokemon was got in legit was, then you are allowed to clone it.

Also there was a time during gen 4 where they were banning anyone who gen'd/sav'd pokemon. I still did it anyway since i know how to make shiy look legit

Shouldn't they consider cloning "cheating" either way?

I remember it was generally frowned upon in Gen 4, but pretty much everyone did it. It was like a fucking weird witch hunt.
The battle threads here were filled with people who claimed to have legitimately obtained hundreds of competitively viable Pokemon. It was obvious bullshit.

Only for certain natures and whatnot. In gen III, for example, a wild-caught Pokemon from Emerald can have 31s across the board and a Timid nature, but not a Jolly one. That's just how that game is programmed.

There used to be a big debate over whether or not cloning should be allowed but I think people ultimately swung in favor of it because if you draw the line at "you're not playing the game by the developer's intentions" then you'd also have to ban RNG'd mons which would be impossible to enforce, and it's not like Smogon actually plays the games how the developers have intended them, so they drew the line at using outside devices to modify the game.
