There's always Battle Institution if you don't have Rare Candies. Scales you up to 50.
Worst I've done is nearly trading out my Everstone over Wondertrade. Flipped the wifi switch before the trade could go through when I realized what I was doing. This was back before I realized I could easily get more of them.

In hindsight it was more bad luck than fucking up, but I should have just gone with the safe way and used a reset bag on the Treecko. Eh, easy come easy go

If you just want to know where the 31 IV's are at, why don't you just go to the judge in Kiloude instead of using rare candies? You beat the elite 4 anyway.
