So here's how we fix the ice type. FRZ status gets nerfed to 2-5 turns before unthawing but chances of freezing are increased. Ice is super effective against water but water is still neutral towards it on the offense(OR there becomes a tm or move tutor that teaches freeze dry to ice pokemon). would this alone make ice pokemon more viable or is it a lost cause?

Ice moves are gud. But the Ice type in itself sucks. It won't change though, it's not meant to be good defensively. Offensively it's nice enough already.

Less Ice type pokemon need to be defensive and more need to be quick and powerful. Offensively they're already strong.

A good ice type pokemon needs to have traits that make up for these shortcomings, ie, the fact they always die. So they need to bring something to the table that won't be outclassed by a water type with Ice Beam.

Mamoswine is a good ice type because even though it's slow, it gets priority, and it also sets up rocks, for example, giving it some use over the countless bulky waters that would otherwise outshine it.

Well, they finally got the "defensive Ice-type" right with Avalugg, but I doubt they'll get that right again (but we all know they won't stop trying), unless they went with a specially-defensive variant?

Fast, brittle HO mons like Weavile are always welcome as well, and they need to stop already with these Trick Room sweepers they insist on making.

Yes, Ice types need to have some resists in order to make use of their common stats. To reference TV Tropes, Ice types are suppose to be Mighty Glaciers, slow, but tough and powerful. But their typing under cuts that, they just get melted before they can do anything. Resulting that the fans want to punch whoever at GF keeps inserting the descriptor "like a glacier" and instead come up with 15 different flavors of Weavile, going all in on the fast glass cannon
