Memento retains momentum. Sacrificing one of your support Pokemon on the right turn as well as most likely forcing a switch is very turn efficient.

Even in such a situation it's completely situational and could easily backfire.

Even if you rinse and repeat, you'd lose due to putting your foot in the grave. The idea itself looks good on paper but it doesn't work out here.

Memento can be used as a last means to cripple an opponent. It can be used to maintain momentum (using memento and bringing out a new mon vs hard switching to a new mon). If a support mon is trapped it can be a get out of jail free card.

It's not a directly useful move but it's tactically sound.

I always thought Flatter was really stupid. I mean, I understand Swagger because damage from confusion is based off Attack, but Flatter is just two random effects just to be a move. Pretty pointless.

I thought the way Flatter worked, it applied Sp Atk to the confusion damage. So it would be more effective on say, a Hydreigon. It doesn't do that?

Nope, confusion works the same way however it's caused. Flatter is just two random effects.

What really gets me is Flatter isn't even a special Swagger, as stupid as that idea sounds - it only boosts SpA one stage, not two.

1. 2 moves for 2 effects: confusing enemy and raising sp atk
2. psych up is also usefull against set-uppers or if your pokemon stats has been lowered. to some extent it can replce haze in evening the field- tough it's more circumstancial.

Confusion is pretty unreliable though. And set up sweepers are going to outspeed you when you try to Psych Up anyways.

Also why would you run that silly set when there are:

Which are all pretty common moves that are all better than Flatter + Psych Up

with set up sweepers you need to read the flow and use psych up on turns before the enemy actually attacks. like with haze. confusion might be a bit unreliable, but usefull. flatter s safer than swaggar on phys attackers, and not everyone can learn confuse ray
