I do agree that doubles is more balanced for this reason, but this doesn't mean it's necessarily better and Mega Mom is brought up a lot as an example: you know how people complain about people using OU: The team? Well Mega Mom, Garchomp, Talonflame, and some others are more used in doubles than any OU mon is in OU.
