Went to a Furious Fists pre-release after being away from the TCG for 5+ years, pulled the Seismitoad EX full art in my first pack, and lost to my first two players, but swept a kid in the last round with Mountain ring and Seismitoad's Grenade hammer.

Unsure if this goes here, but sharing cuz I'm bored!

Most are shitty and handled by grubby child hands, but some are mint, and I have no idea what I want to do with them. Attempting to sell the few that are worth anything seems like it would be exhausting. So for now, they collect dust.

I'm not sure how you feel about trading some/all of those, but I need several of them for my collection. I mostly have video game stuff (old and some new) to offer, maybe some cash thrown in as well. The whole collection is probably worth just over $200, with the shining cards making up the majority of the price. Granted, you'd never actually get that much for them unless you sold them all individually on ebay, most sites would buy them for 40-60% of their sale value.

All the shining pokemon, Charizard, the base set Gyarados, the prerelease Aerodactyl, Erika's Clefable, Koga's Beedrill, Blaine's Charizard, Erika's Venusaur, Feraligatr, Delibird, Porygon2, Raikou. I think that's it.

I'm no grading expert, however a while back I did so, so here is copy/pasted conditions. (If you even care, I imagine you would.)

(HP) = Heavily Played, lots of little scratches, a huge scratch, a bend, tear, etc.
(MP) = More scratches than LP, but not heavily damaged.
(LP) = Lightly Played, has some edge wear and/or a few scratches.
(NM) = Near Mint, probaly one very minute scratch, very light edge wear.
(Mint) = Perfect.

All shinings are Mint.
Charizard (LP)
Gyarados (LP)
Aerodactyl Prerelease (HP)
Erika's Clefable (NM~) (Very slight crease in the top right.)
Koga's Beedrill (NM)
Blaine's Charizard Japanese (NM)
Erika's Venusaur (NM/Mint)
Feraligatr (LP) (Almost NM/Mint, very slight crease at bottom right.)
Delibird (LP) (Would be NM without odd circular shaped crease in the middle of the card.)
Porygon2 (Mint)
Raikou (Mint)

Probably some errors or oversights along the way, however that should be a ballpark.

Not typos, just a note. Obviously they aren't anywhere near NM if there is a crease. In that particular instance the NM is more in regards to scratching, with the added note that there is a crease in the card, which obviously ruins it, regardless of the rest of the cards condition.

I'll admit, it was a stupid system, but it beats taking the cards back out to re-examine.

Eh idk. You/he seems to think creases are in the league with tiny scratches (which I dont classify as NM either)

BW was decent enough despite Reshiram/Zekrom being absurd.
Emerging Powers was kind of shit.
Noble Victories was good at the time.
Next Destinies was horrendous simply on the grounds of Mewtwo-EX.
Dark Explorers somehow was even worse with the 3edgy5me theme and fucking Sableye being everywhere AGAIN.
Dragons Exalted was a good set.
Boundaries Crossed was decent.
Plasma Storm was where things really went downhill with Laser and Laser alone - the single stupidest idea ever.
Plasma Freeze was a good set and had the most interesting Plasma cards.
Plasma Blast was BoosterBabies the set. Didn't like it.
Legendary Treasures added not much new but the brilliant average pack quality made up for it.

XY in general so far has been awful.

Basically, when Plasma Blast came out, the 7 year old kid who finds the cyborg insect really cool also wanted to use the 200 damage shred effect with it, and worked out alongside Virizion-EX is a rather decent deck. While it loses to anyone with half a brain (including anyone using Pyroar or Startling Megaphone) it won Juniors at Worlds, proving that a deck used by small children is good at beating small children.

Anywhere else it lost.

Then again, I also referred to TDK users as "Plasmachildren" and Yveltal-EX users as "Cr-Y-babies" so take what I say with a pinch of salt.

In my opinion, those cards look terrible. They're relatively static, no backgrounds, boring.
I like cards with art like this.
Sure, a LOT of the new cards are the awful looking 3D, but there are still quite a few nice looking ones. Like the LT Tepig line.

It's up to BW51, so we are losing Beach.

Oh, and I checked the TCGO's Refresher...

So I did what was reccomended on a previous thread and started selling out some cards on ebay and some commons to troll and toad, so far so good.

If the card has any sort of retail value, put it in a sleeve.

Card prices tend to just raise, and not lower. I think that might especially be the case for something like pokemon where there aren't reprints(?) However I don't know since I'm only talking from MTG experience.

I have stacks of XY, Flash Fire, and Furious Fist cards that I don't need.

Gotten so many booster packs, and still didn't get what I wanted :/
Well, I did get Charizard Y but not X, and a FA Magetzone from FlashFire. And Mega Haracross and Lucario, and 2 Hawlucha Ex from FuriousFist, but still nothing super rare.

Think I'll wait on getting more cards untill Mega Gengar comes out.

Also, I have Slaking cards that's holographic in two ways, one in the picture, and the other around the card.
Is there really a difference?

As long as it's a "whoops, the energy I just placed wasn't supposed to be for that one!", it's fine because there isn't a misconduct here, just a player who got wrong. Judges don't penalize playing badly, they penalize bad behavior. Although this also depends on the tournament level: in a nats/worlds it should be penalized because players are on a high level, but a battle roads where many players are novices? It can be forgiven.

I can't run PokemonInstaller.msi. Attempting to launch it opens no new windows, but causes the "hourglass" to appear temporarily when I hover over the folder containing it. I tried a multitude of msi fixes, such as dealing with the registry and Services. I'm running Vista Home Premium.

It was so obnoxious. He used the Hammers to get rid of whatever energy my Pokemon had, Lasers + Virbank to whittle down my Pokemon, Jim & Cas to get rid of my hand, and Luvdisc's attack + Fliptini to prevent me from drawing a card for the rest of the game.

I went to target today to buy a new backpack and the kid in front of me in line was trying to steal a bunch of these booster packs and what not.

pair it up with Virizion-EX, scoop-up cyclone, and a few super scoop ups. Get Virizion attacking to get a lot of grass energy on the bench then you can use Bust In and you only need one electric to attack. I would use Rainbow energy. Also 120 for 3 isn't great damage output so I would use 4x muscle band and LaserBank. Just make sure you run at least two Startling Megaphone to shut down Garbodor since your deck relies heavily on abilities. I would prob use three megaphone. Scoop-Ups are there to save KOes and basically free heal for Dragonite and you can just use Bust In again later.

tl;dr Virizion-EX, LaserBank

You could make an alright one if its the fire M char. Theres an item that stops recoil damage plus good fire acceleration cards too.

It's one of the best theme decks to play, it has a lot of useful cards so I think buying it wouldn't be a bad start alongside the elite box. Both the set and the deck are fighting themed, so the boosters from the box have a great chance of giving you cards that help you greatly improve the deck.

Get two of the Pangoro theme deck. Don't bother with the elite trainer box. The Pangoro deck has a lot of decent cards including Korrina and Sycamore but only two of each - getting two of the same deck means you now have four of each. Just buy singles instead of packs for the stronger cards - especially given how low the average pack quality is for the XY sets.

The one that lets you pull a dragon out of your deck every turn. Start loading up your bench with more gabites, and the altaria that adds 20 atk to dragons.

I've got an OK char EX deck going. I tend to try to be more gimmicky though and am thinking about running Emboar, max potion, and M char Y. Not many things will be able to one shot this guy and if I can heal off almost 200 damage and just slap down all the energy it needs in one turn its going to be a monster.

Chari decks are always interesting.

Charizard/Pyroar was a pretty powerful deck this year and saw a lot of play. Emboar is good, but I'd rather Blacksmith or similar instead. Charizard-EX doesn't need too much energy anyways.

Pic related is the deck I'm running. The Battle Reporter is there because it's a pretty okay card.

You have much success with that? I love all the nice effects that fairy decks get with the energy movement, free switches, no status. But I never really have problems against them and I'm not that great. Just doesn't seem as powerful as it could be.

Yeah, it's just a safety measure. I usually just discard it if I don't see lasers, or I'm positive my opponent doesn't run any conditions.

Of course, if worst comes to worst, I can just bring in another strong attacker like Xerneas-EX. It's suprisingly good, it's a good back-up attacker and can take care of high damaged things with some damage counters quickly.

Fuck, sorry. I thought since Slurpuff was the main thing being asked about that was the topic.

I win some, I lose some. It's honestly a really fun deck to play. It depends on if I can get any back-up attackers out or if Kangaskhan can stay in and live.

It's super fun to move around energies when needed, though. Running Geomancy Xerneas with this deck is a must, because you can get energy into play and move it around quickly.

Garbodor is a problem, but I can still just use other attackers to pick off whatever else I need to. Mewtwo-EX can deal with fighting types nicely now, which is great because Kanga's weak to them.

tl;dr It works sometimes, I'm 56/75 in wins.

If you play online you can buy booster pack codes for .25-.35c~ each. You can trade those for really good cards. 50$ is a fuck ton of codes and will buy you everything you need for any deck.

Real cards are going to cost a whole lot fucking more.

Yeah I get that. Played a lot of card games growing up. To be really honest though I wouldn't touch pokemon local events with a ten foot pole. Its going to be a bunch of kids and a couple of neckbeards.

If you really really want to do IRL, I still recommend playing the online version for a day or two to get your feet wet so you don't just waste the money on some deck you don't like. From there buy a theme deck, then get a few EX that you think can fit in there.

If you want to oversimplify it, yeah. For example, if you make an Yveltal-EX deck, it's the main focus and you add support pokemon that help you power up Yveltal-EX and deal with its counters. You also need the trainers you need to execute your strategy consistently, effectively and quickly.

But if you think of deckbuilding only in terms of taking advantage of overpowered cards rather than acheiving win conditions in different scenarios, you end up with unoptimal lists.

Aromatisse is pretty good in Fairy decks.

White Kyurem, assuming you mean the Legendary Treasures one, is pretty bad.

Vivillon's bad, but it looks nice.

Greninja's a little popular and I think Greninja/Kingdra was a thing for a while.

Which Sigilyph did you get? Toolbox or Safeguard? Safeguard is probably better, though.

Meloetta is only good in round decks.

Atleast you got some good stuff.
