Most first-stage Pokemon are useless. Purrloin isn't good at all, but its better than most basic mons

Oh, are we just talking about in-game? If so, then yeah, Purrloin is one of the worst mons of all time. I can put up with bad mons (I've used a Volbeat in-game before), but Purrloin has no moves, levels slowly, and no good matchups except the occasional Munna. I could never use it in-game.

Purrloin has Prankster, Combee can use Honey Gather to get for horde training, Luvdisc gives you Heart Scales. Unown was added to showcase Hidden Power but there's no point after its nerf.

Luvdisc provides Heart Scales. It's amazingly useful.

Unown is objectively the worst Pokemon of all time. It wastes the most Dex space while being less useful than Magikarp, all for a gimmick that was never fulfilled.
