I'm sort of casually hatching Gastly eggs as GTS fodder, and thinking about Helioptile in the future.

Incidentally, does anyone have a HA Dream Ball female Karrablast? I've been GTSing for weeks and it's like hunting unicorns. I can offer a pentaperfect timid Premier Ball Gastly or timid 5IV Luxury Ball Helioptile with 3 egg moves and might have leftovers from some of my other projects.

Well, I have to imagine that the reason they give every starter, Eevee, fossils, etc. a 87.5% chance of being male is to discourage breeding them and sharing them with other people. It's easy enough to get around if you're simply diligent, but overall, I wouldn't say the ratios DON'T matter.

So, if I were to breed for a Shiny with a good IV set, do I just do the basic IV breeding until I have a 5IV whatever, then breed that with a foreign 3IV ditto?

Breeding with a 3IV foreign Ditto is probably a bad idea since there's a strong chance of the offspring getting the bad IVs.
If you ask in the Genning general or the Trading one there should be someone able to give you a hacked 6IV foreign Ditto, those are the typical sex-slaves of the thread. If you don't want to or can't, most people breed until they get the Hexaflawless seven and then use those in lieu of a Ditto. But unless you can acquire foreign ones or a foreign mother, MMing won't work with them for obvious reasons.

I think what I might do is breed a penta perfect Feebas, then breed a seperate Shiny feebas. I wouldn't use a shiny penta in battles anyway.

Finally got this Thursday night after 3 days on the endless bike ride. I forgot that its wings turn from red to green, so I'm even more excited.

There's this "new" method where instead of hatching tons of eggs, you put the fathers on the daycare and when the egg is ready, you go and battle some hordes, around 20-30 and if you don't get a shiny you go and start MMing, and pretty soon you get your breeded shiny.

What does /shw/ thinks of this? Is there any logic sense behind this? Or is it pure luck? I'm on this facebook group where people started doing it and the ones who tried it had success.

The ones who have tries it, have fought 15, 20 or 30 hordes. And then start MMing. Their logic is that instead of genering x amount of non-shiny Pokemon through breeding, they do it through hordes and then start breeding to increase the chance of one of the next Pokemon to be shiny.
I'll try it tomorrow, if I succeed I'll post it here so more people can also try it.

It's just how it happens sometimes. The parents were a 6V Ditto and a Pinsir with x/31/31/31/31/x, I believe. I was still trying for an offspring with 31/31/31/x/31/31 so that I could replace the old mother, but this shiny came earlier than expected. It was just shitty luck that the offspring didn't inherit Attack, but I can deal with 25.

I've gotten a shiny 5IV HA Lugia from Wonder Trade a few months ago which is pretty awesome in its own right. Though, I'd say the best thing I've gotten is a battle ready shiny 5IV Blissey. Even came with Leftovers, I believe.

Getting shinies over Wonder Trade is nice.

You probably don't need sandstorm, and most people using weather just use sand stream/drought/drizzle anyway. Infestation is good on shuckle because it does damage over time as well as preventing them from switching out to not die to poison.

And shiny chance is pure RNG, the 1st egg is just as likely as the 2000th egg. Whenever you can, check to see if your newly hatched female is better than the one you're using now.

By the time you pop a shone, you can at least guarantee the nature (100%), ability (80%), and IVs (if both parents are 6IV w/destiny knot then the egg will be 5IV guaranteed, but not necessarily the ones you need i.e. Missing Hp but having SpAtk on a physical 'mon)

How about Shell Smash vs. Power Split? I almost feel like Split is the better choice since it doesn't rely on Contrary to work, meaning I can just go with Sturdy instead, plus it seems more versatile. But if there are any good reasons I should use Smash, let me know.

Because if I'm going to cheat to get a good ditto, you may as well go the extra mile and just cheat a shiny, perfect Feebas. There are three options:

1. Get a legit foreign ditto, breed for a (non perfect) shiny Feebas
2. Get a illegitimate foregin ditto with good IV's, breed for a (perfect) Shiny feebas
3. Get an illegitimate (perfect) shiny feebas

If you're going to get a genned ditto to make perfect shinies, why not just gen perfect shinies?

Just to be clear, I'm not like, judging you all for taking option 2 or 3, I know if it's what you want to do you can do it like that and have fun with it, but for me option 2 or 3 seem way too similar.

Power Split might work better than Shell Smash now that I think about it. You'll only be able to use it against one mon without switching, but it might be a good set. Try it out on Showdown if you're still iffy.

Having a 6V foreign Ditto is like having those hexaflawless seven, but all in one package. If you can acquire those, it's pretty much the same to have a genned Ditto. Ditto is just easier since it's one Pokemon.

Yes it is, if you have a different language cart or a friend with a different language cart.
It's extremely hard to do so in XY since RNG hasn't been manipulated yet, but it's still possible.

If you're only using a genned Pokemon for breeding other Pokemon, I don't see any problem, though. In the end, you're still facing the same odds as everyone else does on the never ending ride.

Probably the best way to get a legit perfect Kalos Ditto is a Poke radar chain of over 60. At that point 3 perfect IVs are guaranteed.

I got a chain of about 110, I think, and caught two shiny ones (3V and 4V), a single 5V and a few 4V ones. Pretty sure you're going to have better chances getting multiple shinies than a 6V Ditto, but it's possible.

You just need patience and sharp eyes.

The main rule is to never go to patches that don't shake hard. Avoid patches that don't have grass in every 9 tiles around them, since the shaking tiles might be generated to tiles that don't have grass.

The further away the patches are, the better the chances. Hard-shaking patches that are 1 tile away can still keep the chain going but after a chain of 10-20 the risk is too great. It'd be the best if you only went to patches that are 4 tile rings away, but 3 is fairly safe too.

When in doubt, reset the radar.

Also sometimes the RNG might simply fuck you over just because.

Depends on what you want, but since Pokemon Village is the only place with Dittos, not to mention it has a lot of grass, I'd start there. If you were asking where exactly, I found the open area to the left of the Snorlax the easiest.
