It's good because it prevents the opponent from getting free switches and dragging out the game, there are only a handful of things kept in check by SR and it's really not a big problem when teambuilding since you shouldn't be grouping up a bunch of Pokemon with a common weakness anyways.

SR is literally in every tier, that 4x weakness is always a problem. There are a handful of Pokemon that would change tier if SR was gone and they're usually BL/top of their tier anyways.

Spikes are not nearly as good as SR and they aren't nearly as widely distributed. They also don't affect flying types so you'd see sashed birds take over as dominant revenge killers.

Switching needs to have a cost.
I believe that it shouldn't do type damage, but switching needs to have a cost and it's better that it's player caused as opposed to plainly integrated.

while i personally feel SR is terrible, i don't mind people using it as you can very easily play around that, but i don't think switching should be punishable, it's a crucial instrument in the mind games of a battle

How would that even work? There's already ranked battles so if you're not very competitive you'll end up with other low-ranking players.

No switching is fucking dumb. Tons of abilities are based off switching. SR gives switches consequence.

As is 3v3 makes teams more "weighted". Like in 6v6 you often have more opportunities to switch into a resist or an absorb ability. But most 3v3 battles in my experience end quick because you have to choose to lose a Pokemon to create an opportunity or take a big hit. That consequence is lessened on a larger team.

The problem with stealth rock is not that it punishes switching, but that it deals type-damage.
Why should charizard or volcarona be punished more than something like ferrothorn or cobalion?

If all pokemon took the same damage from stealth rock there would be nothing wrong with it.
Stealth rock is broken because its biased, not because of how it effects switching.

The residual turn damage from, poison, burn, toxic, infestation, fire spin, etc don't deal deal type damage.
There is a precedent for un-typed damage, there is no reason stealth rock needs to be biased despite this.

Stealth Rock should NOT be banned, it just needs to be altered.

Stealth Rock inflicting Super Effective Damage is the most absurd thing I can imagine and proves that GF doesn't give a flying fuck about the fans.

Stealth Rock inflicts SE damage to hammer flying/levitate Pokemon for avoiding other hazards, but bug, ice and fire types are not being nerfed for no fucking reason, Ice and Fire being two of them most frail types in the game already.

Stealth Rocks now inflicts 1/4 damage to Flying and Levitate Pokemon ONLY and 1/8 to everything else.

Solved.

Also, SR adds more to a battle than it takes away, since managing hazards adds another layer on top of an already decently complicated format. Getting screwed by hazards is a teambuilding mistake almost on par with having a team that gets walled by Heatran or Chansey and swept by CharX. Since teambuilding is like half of the game, SR being omnipresent changes how you build. Since so many (entirely viable) mons can remove them with Defog, there's even less of a reason to ban them.
