What was great about Hoenn was the trio just looked good together, same with Kanto.

Kalos is similar there and has a united theme to help with it as well. Unova tried to have a united theme but the starters just didn't look good together and the theme wasn't very pronounced, and Sinnoh's starters were just kinda there but at least they looked good on their own.
