So what are you going to do when you realize you want to stop playing pokemon and you begin to think of all the time you spent trading for and battling bits of game data that couldn't get you anything you really wanted in your life of important consequence while cock blocking your time for important things?

I quit pokemon recently because of this. Are you really going to care about playing this game 5 years from now? No? Then why not just stop playing it today?

I thought like that too. Than I realized most thing are unimportant time dumps. Any videogame, any movie, even stupid shit like reading a newspaper is basically infotainment like 4chan. Doing sports, eating an ice cream, etc. is all fucking useless. All it does is give some sort of hormonal response which results into pleasure. By this logic, you should only work. I can understand two things from this. One, that you're equating having fun with a loss of time. There has to be something terribly wrong with you by doing that comparison. Not everything a human does has to be "productive", try living life instead of living to petty human standards and maybe you will find life more enjoyable. Life is not all about success and wealth, you know.

And two, that you have a huge issue with hobbies and that you're unable to balance them and your life. If so I'd suggest you to stop and reconsider what the fuck you're doing with your life while stop blaming your hobbies for that. Life is YOUR responsibility, not your games, your hobbies or even a god.

Sounds more like you're experiencing a different kind of problem in your life related with maturity, and pokemon is your scapegoat. EVERYTHING can be considered a "waste of time". I've loved drawing since I was little, but my famiy considered everything but study as a waste of time.

Honest to fucking god though the game is headed in a shitty direction, I mean even if you didn't mind the last generation pokemon as whole has become much more of an inartful project as whole. I really don't like the switch made where the game is meant for either 7 year olds or hyper-competitive fags. I feel it lost a lot as a game itself, even back with BW. In terms of level design, new mons and moves, and it became a bit more gimmick-y.

Ultimately though OP is wrong, despite all this I can still replay previous gens over and over and man they're still as good. And hey, maybe the ruby remakes will remind people about the better aspects of Pokemon. IMO Colosseum and Ruby were the best games, but that's just personal.

Fuck it, why not? I'll be working, probably a lot. But everyone has hobbies, and everyone has that 30 minutes before they go to bed. Fuck books, I'll play then if there is absolutly no other time.

Well OP, I didn't stop caring about it 5 years after my first year playing it so why would I stop now? I like it very much and seeing how you can transfer so much of your progress into future titles, seems like it's not going to be a complete waste of time.
