>>20892940Liquid Crystal seemed good until I reached the first city. They added new characters, higher levels to the gyms, and added gen 3 Pokemon to the gym leader's loadout. The added difficulty was fun but annoying at times. The most annoying things were the added characters. They added new rivals who turn out to be important parts of their revised plot that ruins the original plot of Crystal. For example: Silver's dad is Giovanni in the normal games. He was left by him and hates Team Rocket. In Liquid Crystal, he becomes the leader of Team Rocket and cooperates with a new added team called Team Saturn. The bug catching contest was also removed, the safari zone was added as an abandoned place that is part of their fanfiction-esque plot, and the Pokegear wasn't properly put into the game.
I thought this was the only hack of it's kind so I painstakingly played it all the way through and got to the part with the Crystal Onyx in the post-postgame (orange islands, which was full of so many self-referencing trainers it got plain annoying) before I accidentally deleted all my emulator files.
After that I checked Google a bit and found Shiny Gold. Right as I was trying to leave New Bark Town I had to fight a character they added and the horrible memories of Liquid Crystal came flooding back, so I deleted the ROM immediately.
Crystal Dust, on the other hand, was absolutely perfect. Functioning Pokegear, no plot changes made by the hack creators, and a working bug catching contest, but it isn't finished and only had Johto.
I want a completed one to play that doesn't change the plot to include their fanfiction. If I was competent with assembly and rom hacking I'd make it myself, but I don't see that happening any time soon.
