Kind of a weird question here. My husband has finally cracked and realized he wants to play Y, but doesn't own a 3DS yet, and doesn't want to shell out cash for one when the New 3DS comes out within a year.

If he plays a copy of Y on MY 3DS, is it going to cause issues if he switches to a new 3DS further down the line? I know with the DS Pokemon games, it would lock your cart to one DS if you used WiFi, and I'd imagine that the 3DS friend code/NNID thing could do the same. Is that the case? He doesn't want to play Y if it means that he'll lose WiFi/online features when he switches
