They didn't retcon her, what the fuck are you talking about?
If you're referring to Red being the champion on mt silver, that wasn't a retcon, he was always on mt silver, it was just unfortunate that she didn't exist when GSC was made.
She still exists in the universe.

Leaf looks like the classiest of the female protags. Not necessarily classy as in sophisticated but classy as in she just looks as classic as Red does. Which, IMO, accomplishes her role. She is supposed to stand alongside Red as the OG trainers. They both wear very standard attire and have pretty relateable average features. Red- jeans, jacket, hat. Leaf-skirt, tank.
