Younger players stick to mostly balanced HO. Older players try to go for hyper specialized HO and if you happen to be able to wall/not handle their team quickly enough then it's ogre.

Also a lot of the younger players have older brothers in the older divisions helping them make their teams.

No, it's not a case of "you're ignant," it's a case of being LITERALLY retarded to say that a separate age group of a competition separate from the actual kids is for kids. If a bunch of people are in a competition of staying awake as long as they can to watch Dora the Explorer but an age restriction exists permitting only people of 18 years or older to participate, it is not for children despite the intended audience. You could say "m-muh arbitrary limitations and restrictions...!" but that's what a tournament is anyway.

What I've been trying to convey (and I can't tell if it's because you have some kind of mental block preventing me from getting through, I'm being b8d repeatedly, or I'm not being clear) is that if the competition is made exclusively for older players in the ruleset, regardless of the individuals the game is directed at, it inherently cannot be a competition for children.

I play in local pokemon game tournaments, none of them official though.

The official tournies draw in a lots of younger kids, and the only time I went some neckbeard sperg won everything with some broken as shit rain team.

Mind you his opponents were all like 8-14 while he was easily 20, I actually threw a match just because I felt guilty shit stomping some kid with a meta team when he had clearly worked really hard on his original team.

I was aggravated seeing all these bumbed out kids, and then this shit eating fedora take the stupid merch prize.

Age segregation is a good idea, and I'm not against older people playing competitive but I feel like at a certain age the adults and older kids should take a back seat and let the young kids shine. At least at the actual physical events, we can still be huge perfectionist autists in like showdown.

If any kids show up at the tournies I go too at this hobby shop, we usually try to help them out and give them free mons for breeding and teach them the meta and basic team building.

I just can't bring myself to enter any big official venue, I remember how crushed I was playing yugioh as a kid at this event in toronto and getting shit stomped by some dude in his mid 20's who had all the best shit because he could waste all his autism bucks on trading cards.

I'll admit that Pokemon is competitive for kids, and that most adults playing it look ridiculous but there are some exceptions (thankfully I've never seen any of them up at Worlds on stage, it's been older teenagers atleast from what I've seen.)

Neckbeards do go to Pokemon related things a lot, though. As a TCG fag I went to a pre-release for Flashfire and there was this guy who looked as big as the tables there, and suprise suprise he had super expensive shit. I didn't say anything but he scared me.
