At what point it can be considered that liking an inferior Pokemon comes with more trouble than it is really worth?

At what point it is a safer option to just give up, accept that a wrong choice has been made, turn around and never look back?

This is the franchise where only the most popular parts of it are regularly checked on, which means that anything else is destined to gradually rot away while people look forward to new things. Looks like the whole Gallade fiasco is just another example of it. Is it safe to say that this is the time to put a final nail in yet another coffin?
