There is no reason for them to stop the day/night cycle just because the originals didn't. And that was because if hardware issues.

Also, those images may be more of a reflection of their weather control in effect

What the fuck even happened here? It's not like the original games didn't had the time, you could set the clock, but you could only see it so often in your room and God knows where else and yet, the Moon would never come and it was always day?
