THey didn't make a minor Gen 6 trio. So they covered it with another trio. Now what trio could they use?
They couldn't use the Regis, they are saving those for ORAS. Lake trio? Already present in BW2. Muskteers? Appeared in the previous two titles. Genies? Appeared in BW, also the stars of that spinoff. It came down to the Johto Beasts or the Birds but at the end of the day GF is a company that must relie on its strong points to sell. Sorry they don't use your Dunsparce for advertising.
>>20941431Out of those, only the Santalune forest and MAYBE the sleeping Snorlax could be considered "pandering". Kanto starters and Mewtwo are there to advertise megas (and might I add, POPULAR). Lapras is to showcase the custom surf animation. And before you say that the Lapras animation is lolpandering I'll just remind you that Lapras is the go-to pokemon for everything Surfing related, no only on main games but also spin-offs and anime.
