While working on my Pokémon game a couple of days ago, I came up with an idea that I decided I don't have the experience to implement. So, I wanted to ask what /vp/ thinks of the idea. If you all like it, I'll keep running with it and learn to make it a reality.

>Every Pokémon that has an ability that makes it immune to something has their ability replaced with something else.
>That immunity becomes a whole new thing for a Pokémon called a "trait".
>Not all Pokémon have traits.
>When breeding, if a male Pokémon with a trait holds the "Trait Metal", the trait has a 12.5% chance of being passed down to the offspring that normally wouldn't have that trait.
>If the Pokémon is trying to pass a trait down to a Pokémon that already innately has a trait, it has a 25% chance of passing down.
>You can only have a limited number of Pokémon with traits on one team (I was thinking three).

Pokémon like Eelektross could get a new ability like speed boost while still retaining the ground immunity that is so important to them. This is a nerf to types like ground, water, and fire that have traits to make them immune and boost stats, but I was thinking of making traits for every type.

Would that be too overpowered? Or would it add another layer of depth to the game?
