Same face in all the episodes is better than a character changing two fucking times. Also, they needed a different pokémon, as Ash was supposed to be a character with a personality, not a bland fuck for kids to imagine themselves as the main character.

Look at fucking vulpix face. It's bland. It's not a mon able to do lot of faces from sad to happy to angry, also, not a shouldermon able to jump, dodge, run, climb and fuck. Not even an option to begin with.
As for jigglypuff/clefairy, it would be a girly show, lose appeal to the boys, and the show would die in the 10th chapter.
Pikachu is perfect as it is, and all your crying won't change it.
