Nope. We were pretty lower middle class, but I never went without Pokemon. My dad knew it made me happy, so he made sure I always had it.

I'm from a third world country so you can imagine it was not only hard as fuck to get but also really expensive. My only experience with Pokemon were shitty bootleg toys, cards and the anime until I could emulate the games.

My family dont have a lot of money, i use to think that Pokémon was only an anime, my first console was an used 64 in fucking 2001, then my dad get a new job and bought me a GBA with a Ruby copy when i have 15 yo.

My dad is now retired and my family is starting to get poor again, tfw you still in college and just sell your old games and resell shit to have a little of money and just receive house and food from my parents, i feel like a parasite.

btw im in a 3rd wolrd country, sorry my english.

Sorta. I stole my gameboy from a neighbour, it was his old spare one he didn't use. I was never caught.

I also then stole my first Pokemon game from a friend of mine in school. It was Pokemon Yellow. He said "It is terrible" so I said yolo and took the terribleness from him.

I then ended up getting Silver a few months after it came out in a pawn shop.

Luckily when Sapphire came out I was able to buy a GBA and Sapphire brand new.

The first thing i ever saved up my own money for was the original gold version, Saving up my 10 dollars a week pocket money, mowing the neighbours lawn for 20 bucks.

Mum was poor but I still got most of the games on special occasion
Got yellow when I was 5
The next Christmas got blue
Few years later saved up for sapphire got stolen one of mums friends found out gave me there spare copy of crystal
Bought ruby birthday get another ruby version give it to a friend so and grandparents bought me LF and emerald

Got a job and bought diamond still have a job to buy my games
Was poorish but I was lucky I guess

I played pokemon games when we spent summers in Alabama with family. It was 64. Then we stopped going so it was awhile before we got a Wii and my dad(who at this point only bought my little brother games) got Pokepark. I finished high school and as a gift my dad got me a 3DS. Couple years later I saved some money from a birthday and some refund money my mom gave me to buy Pokemon X. I have 50 from this year's birthday so imam buy one if the new games. Dint know which tho.

Yes. Where I live back in the late 90' / early 00' the minimal salary hardly could afford the Gameboy. And I being a child whom parents work hard just for me getting some slim chance to succeed by study; I wasn't in a position to be a brat and ask for things that I know were out of reach.

I was just happy with the Megadrive that they bought as a Christmas present for me and my brother back in the 92 thanks to a extra money that the chicken slaughterhouse brought up that year.

Currently, I'm unemployed but from the last year and half of this I could bring some things to home and such, and afford to a console.

It's a thing of priorities and wealth, if you don't have money, you look at this things as something unnecessary and would enjoy whatever you're able to reach. When you have more money, usually you spend more to get some kind of gratification at yourself in comparison to the ones who can't do that.
