is it really that bad they streamlined everything? Would you rather pass the town and be forced to backtrack there after you got enough badges?

sounds boring as fuck, it makes more sense to enter town A, Fight Leader B, and move on to side town C etc. backtracking serves no purpose to the story/ game play other then wasting your time.

On that front, that does make OPs frustration with Miss Fantina a little more understandable.

Mismagius with Shadow Ball is pretty powerful on it's own, but to face her (I'm pretty sure Fantina's Mismagius is a her) that early on is something else.

Then again, Sinnoh's shitty inferior poffins were the main problem. The whole "don't stirr too fast/slow" mixture momentum was a bad mechanic. Not even Cooking Mama is that awful.

I love backtracking in Pokemon games when it's done right. It makes the cities seem bigger because you can't just do everything within 5 minutes of arriving.
