Are there any names that are different in the Spanish/Italian versions of the games?

I've looked at a lot of different Pokemon entries, and of those I've seen in Spanish and Italian, they've had the same name as the English versions.

Is there ANYTHING that's different in Spanish/Italian?

Pokemon names in spanish are the same as english, dunno about italian. The moves name in spanish are so stupid tho.

"At close range", it seems. I'm a native Spanish speaker and I've never heard anyone ever using it. Why the hell they couldn't name it "Combate Cercano" which literally translates as "Close Combat"? This is the main reason I prefer to play everything in English instead of Spanish.

Head Smash=Cabezazo

However, since they already used Cabezazo, they instead use "Testarazo", a synonym that is only used in spain

For Close Combat they used "A Bocajarro", again, this term is only known in spain, a more accurate translation would be "Cuerpo a Cuerpo" which means basically the same

Hilda's name was changed to Liza

Rosa is Nanci

May is Aura

Dawn is Maya

Hilbert is Lucho, fucking Lucho, the only decent one is Lucas which is Leon in spanish.

italianfag here, I still remember purchasing the counter TM as a kid in Blue and not having the slightest clue as to what it was supposed to do. It was called "contatore" which means "someone/something who/which counts", as in one, two, three... so I taught it to a pokèmon and it did nothing and I tought the pokèmon was counting or something so I made it forget it. At least they fixed it ome gens later, but it's embarassing...

It's funny. Anyone in their right mind will buy the games in english. People who live in LA that don't speak spanish, have to choose between buying the english version who won't fully understand, or buying the Gallega Version, which they won't understand either. Here's the thing. I do speak Castellano(LA Spanish), I speak English, I speak some french, but damn, I can't understand a single word that comes from a Spanish guy talking with words only they know.

Yeah, I don't know any Spanish speaker who plays video games in Spanish. It sounds so wrong for some reason. Maybe hearing the characters or reading them in the same language as yours makes it a bit hard to feel involved in the game or just take it seriously . I don't know how to explain it.

A bocajarro is actually a expression that is used a lot in spain, don't know about latin countries.

It just means attacking with all you got without considering the risk. Is actually pretty close to what the attack actually does so is not really that bad. We have ton of shit worse.

The spanish Dragon Ball translation (and some other cartoons at the time) were really fucked up specially because they were translated from french, italian and sometimes both of them at the same time.

Imagine the clusterfuck they had there with translations of translations and for some chapters translating from french and for other from italian. That's why it was so shit

I don't understand, I don't know a single person that plays their Pokemon games in english. I usually forget some words in spanish since I read everything about Pokemon in english, but my game is in Spanish.

But I was mad about something in spanish, some of you already said it:

Return -> Retroceso (which means "going back"). It made no sense at all.
Slam -> Portazo
Counter -> Contador (which means nothing exactly, "contar" means to count or calculate).

In resume: both translations are shit, but the Spanish translators got their shit somewhat together in gen 6. The italian translation is still shitty. Nobody had a fucking clue what Contador was for. I thought you'd get more money if you used it in a Trainer Battle.

This translation was corrected to Contraataque and Contrattacco (meaning "counterattack") in the anime dub (only for the Spanish one) and in the sixth generation games. They didn't start translating from Japanese until gen 5 or so, so most likely the translators of the first games thought the English names WERE the original ones.
