The exact same reason why Pokemon White sold more in the US and Pokemon Black sold more in Japan, kids like dark and edgy designs while Japan likes sleeker. It's overdone here with MCharizardX because Japan has a boner for Lucario and it's why Lucario is pushed so heavily over here.
