I was really happy when it was revealed and it didn't get that much hate for not being a Dragon.
Then they revealed X and everything went to hell.
I can't speak for all the genwunners. But I know that a lot actually like Charizard's original typing. I actually see more newer fans that like Charizard X because everything needs to be Dragon to stay cool now.
I would also like to mention that you will get called a nostalgiafag both if you like it and if you dislike it:
If you like it people claim it is only because it is charizard and you should take of your nostalgia glasses.
if you don't like it people will claim that it's just because you don't want any changes to your precious Charizard.
This probably stays true for most megas though
