It was such a whole game. Considering the fact that we've had ten games before, it was very fresh and well done. Goddamit, that nightclub that was also the poison gym, that music... That runway wich was also a gym... with also great music. It was just great.
And don't even get me started on the shitload of good, interesting, useful pokémon. A ghost/water? A fire/bug? Fire/ghost? I think GameFreak reached its peak there.
I remember when the pokedex data leaked... just information, no sprites or anything. My mouth was watering just by seeing the new combinations and the freaking high stats some of them got. A dragon with 147 base attack? Damn. The bug with 135 base special attack? I sure gonna train that one...
I sure hope gen 7 has the same energy and effort put into it.

You can avoid every trainer (well, most of them) in XY and still have an easy time beating every gym and E4. The same is not true for BW2 where even if you fought every trainer there was, you still needed to grind a little to get to the E4 levels, wich were way higher, with far more complete teams.

I don't care about difficulty because this is a child's game, but when it gets too easy as XY, well.. there's less merit to finish it in every sense.

Only the old ones. The new gen V pokémon sucked; starters sucked and 1/3 of them was rip-offs of gen I archtypes. Besides, Kyurem formes are good candidates for ugliest pokémon ever.

Prob one of the games with the most horrendous pacing ever, ungodly amounts of hand holding, a tutorial phase that lasts forever and probably the worst little fairy things of all the M&L.

Plus the dream mechanic is integraded so badly (but comes up way too often), so the flow of the game is completely fucked up as well.

And no, the gyms were not the biggest challenge ever, but they were fun and interesting, with memorable music and with the originality that most of them were blended into the city (nightclub, library, airport) You gotta admit that puts them ahead of ordinary gyms that we got the 4 previous generations.

The ones I listed now all share one type, same amount of stages and are based on roughly the same stuff.
If I were going by less vague descriptions I could easily have added more.
it also happens to a certain degree in other generations, but gen V i s the worst offender by far.

And still manage to feel different. You're flat-out insane if you think Crustle is anything like Paras just because they're both bugs with things on their back. It was all intentional, since Gen V was the closest GF could ever come to rebooting the series.
