I realize this is a bit off of the question, but you're missing the biggest change that Gen 3 brought. Gen 3 changed the wait stats are evaluated and used. (Speed giving crit and avoid, the DV IV system, etc). The gen three changes were so huge that it prevented gen 2 imports.

Gen 5 what fixing trying to fix what gen 4 broke (the meta). It mostly failed, leading to the large changes in gen 6.

Pretty sure inverse was Gen 6, but you'll notice OP didn't mention double battles in Gen 3. Those aren't particularly important changes to the overall gameplay (unless you play VGC).

If I was biased against Gen 3 I could easily make the argument that Natures were the worst thing to happen to the series, because who wants to be stuck with a Pokemon that has a shit nature? Same can be said with 2, and the IV/Breeding system in general

he's right though. the thread is about things that are permanently added to the games. Seasons are a one time thing and didn't stick, so they don't count unlike abilities, natures, etc., and aesthetics don't count because every gen automatically gets an aesthetic upgrade. its a moot point.

Hidden abilities were gen 5s strong point that carried over. triple/rotation battles are okay, they count but no one cares about them. But hidden abilities were a good addition.

and aesthetics are still important in a sense. gen VI technically did carry on gen v's animated Pokemon and full-body backsprites.

and even then the focus of these games is Pokemon, with new features coming in second.
