I doubt that has ever worked in ROMhacks. Try actual fangames, though the only one I ever played before was Pokemon Twilight: Lunar and Solar.

It is hard to exceed the rom's limit of number of total mons. You'd end up with significantly less evolutionary lines. It is best to stick with fan games instead of rom hacking.

Tohou puppet play has johto.
And expert emerald has rematchs with all bosses at the battle frontier..

Blaze Black 2 and Volt white 2 have edited black tower/white tree hollow(for example benga uses either Groudon or Kyogre as his ace depending on which version you choose), and a battle with hilda and hilbert at the nature reserve.

What about a somewhat involved story that doesn't take itself too seriously? Kind of that Mother/Earthbound feel, like you know there's a plot but it's not shoved in your face. Would that translate to a Pokemon game?

Here's one thing I've made:
One thing that's always bothered me was Male-only Pokemon, because no Egg moves, so I've decided to expand the Tyrogue line with 3 more pokemon.
Tyrogue evolves like this now:
Hitmonlee (Male) - Muscle Band
Hitmonchan (Male) - Expert Belt
Hitmontop (Male) - Focus Band
Throh (Male) - Focus Sash
Sawk (Male) - Black Belt
Meloetta (Female) - Silk Scarf

i meant meloetta, throh and sawk. those do have their own mind in the pokeuniverse, but then again romhacks bend those rules.
the idea is not bad at all. you do defintly have an great idea for your romhack.

I already made this in game though, Throh, Sawk and Meloetta make Tyrogue eggs and Tyrogue can evolve into them, I just need to script some things so you can get an evolved form of Tyrogue in the beginning of the game to fight Cheren, whom I made ridiculously powerful.

Alright, got back from my accounting course.

Linoone evolved into...this thing which is normal/dragon and yet still has Pickup. It learns some fire attack at 45 but I'm finding it hard to get it to win fights.

Eh... I'm really not sold on Meloetta. It's based on music while every other one is martial arts. You could argue Pirouette form, but it's still just a ballet stance and not a "fighting" stance per se.

It's pretty much the best english 1.8 version and has the phys/spec from later gens and it's own pokemon types.

There's one with Gen 3 mechanic that's really good called Touhoumon blue which attempts a nonlinear kanto.

Just avoid insane and any of the shitty oh god so hard u will be so mad hacks like touhoumon insane as most of the difficulty is bullshit and has shitty unfun mazes

I really don't like Heart Gold and Soul Silver, and I've always been displeased with gen 4 in general. I loved fire red as a remake and think it was a hell of a lot better than HGSS so I want a gen 2 remake in gen 3, like Fire Red.

Liquid Crystal was terrible. It starts off fine but then the first gym has Hoenn Pokemon and the whole team's level was increased, but the wild Pokemon around the gym wasn't. This is the case for every single gym leader in the entire game.
They also add several rivals that don't fit into the story line but they try to make it work anyway. A few examples of them being forced in is 2 new rivals with overpowered Pokemon being stacked on the spot where Silver challenges you after Bugsy. They are way overleveled and some of their Pokemon are Hoenn Pokemon. They also have Hoenn moves, such as Wish which was very annoying against Umbreon because I had no dark or fighting Pokemon. Eventually these people become more than just rivals and they are forced into the story line. The one named Zane becomes the leader of a new evil organization you have to fight, and he teams up with Silver who joins Team Rocket for some non-canon reason (who, by the way, has a complete personality change in their OC additions to the story). This team also gives you access to the closed down Safari zone where they are trying to use mind control on the legendary birds.
There was a lot of other stuff they added their new evil teams into, including the dragons den, but I cant remember them all.
I do remember I was very happy when I beat the Elite 4 because it meant I finished the shitty hack, but then I had to go to the Orange Islands (which I never finished) and had to read their cringeworthy OC trainers. The train to the orange islands also had arbitrary wait times and if you missed the 1 minute in which it was to leave you'd have to wait 10 more minutes.

In summary about Liquid Crystal in case that wall of text was too much: It doesn't keep to the plot of the original, and not even in a good way. It's also very buggy with no Onix trade, no bug catching contest, and no Pokegear.

I was recommended Shiny Gold on a ROM hack thread and I tried it, but right as I was leaving New Bark Town I had to fight a new rival and the horrors of Liquid Crystal came flooding back, so I deleted it.

Crystal Dust was perfect, but incomplete. It had a mostly working Pokegear, a completed Johto and the Elite 4, but nothing in the rest of Kanto. I've been watching the thread for it on Pokecommunity and the developer doesn't seem like he's going to release a version with Kanto anytime soon. IIRC he said a few weeks ago that he hasn't worked on anything else in Kanto at all.

That's why I need something completed or in progress (as long as it really will be worked on). If I had any skills with assembly and making hacks I'd just make my own but that's not going to happen.

When you go to Mt. Silver there's 3 or 4 people waiting for him and when you talk to them they tell you that they are waiting for a "legendary trainer named red" and then tell you that you need to beat the Elite 4 again if you want to stand a chance battling him.
So you have to beat the elite 4, approach Red and those 4 people standing outside that room talking about how they lost against him, and then battle him by talking to him.
Worst of all his sprite looks hideous and makes it look like his hair is too much for his hat and it's falling off.

If your knowledge base is Pokecommunity, they'll probably try to get you familiar with hex editors.

They're very useful. It doesn't work very well for managing a hack in the long run though, since all your changes are lost in the ether. There's no easy way to track what you've done without making a ton of disorganized notes and backups as you go.

I urge you to work from an assembler instead. Despite the name, asm is not required. Hack-friendly ones like armips let you overlay your changes onto a base rom without ever touching it. There's a gock of other features like constants and macros for event scripting that put even the most popular tools to shame.

You also oughta use version control (git is best). There's a learning curve but it's totally worth it.

Got Weezing up to 57 and ShutEmDonw to 58, for the latter the Absols and Graveills (caught one and nicknamed it deadmau5) provide decent HP and ATK EV training.

One three minute YT walkthrough later and we're through CaveBalls. We then battle a literal troll (not the shitposters on /b/) who says he had 11 Pokemon, then sewed them all together.

The less said, the better.

It plays like a rom hack, the challenge is great, some of the characters are good and the plot is usually pretty good, too. I mostly really like the new battle mechanics (environmental effects in particular).

If you can get past the edginess it's really pretty damn good. It's also got good English, which is not the case for most rom hacks discussed in these threads.

Tabbed back into Snakewood, cleared Victory Road and got Weezing, Raikou and ShutEmDown to 65 then went for the E4. They started off at 53 and worked their way up rather quickly, with the 4th guy, an electric E4 having a 67 Zapdos.

This is the champion. He's not very convincing.

I've also been playing Pokémon Crystal Kaizo. I picked it up after seeing this thread thinking I'd play it and maybe show off some of the worst bits, thinking it was a really bad hack (the same guy made a Kaizo Blue that was pretty bad), but I've been really impressed by the hack for not just slamming you with Lv 100 Pokémon at the start. The hack is hard as nails with some really annoying mazes, but the Pokémon, while having a much steeper level curve, are still below you level-wise; they just have really good AI and really fucking good movesets.

I'm at Jasmine right now (the 7th Gym Leader here since you have to beat Pryce and Chuck before you can get to the Lighthouse) and I have to grind up a second party member to beat her because she has an Ampharos/Porygon2 combo (most Gym Leaders follow their typings, but generally have 1-2 Pokémon that aren't that type, more if the type is especially scarce like Ghost and Steel) that's killing my starter every time; but, even that isn't that brutal because there are Lv 70 wild Pokémon you can catch and you've been given three Lucky Eggs by this point so grinding is really easy and you can catch a Pokémon that doesn't have that far to go to grind up to a proper level.

I have no fucking idea what the Elite Four and Kanto will bring me because Jasmine is already at Lv 83, but the ingenuity of how the hack fucks you over - Smogon would be proud of some of these, others use really unconventional tactics and some seem made just to throw you for a loop (Poliwrath used Lovely Kiss!) - makes me think I won't be disapppointed.

I probably would've chronicled it here with the other anons but then I got banned so maybe I'll find another bad hack later.

Depends on the system.

Most 3rd gen hacks work just fine with a flashcart, as most of them don't delve into modifying the underlying engine, just map/text/graphic data.

On the other hand, a lot of 1st/2nd gen hacks don't work properly on a flashcart. This is because a lot of people get into assembly editing, i.e. modifying the source code of the game to implement new features. Very cool, but the code is often optimized for an emulator, not the hardware. For example, Pokemon Brown (possibly only old revisions) will work fine in VBA, but on the actual hardware, some graphics appear corrupted due to a hardware eccentricity that isn't emulated by VBA.

Has there ever been a hack that would take your party from you for a certain area of the game?

Like, how in a standard RPG you might have the party be separated, you lose your party (moved to the PC I assume would be the easiest way to do it) and maybe an NPC gives you one of their Pokémon until you get out of the area and can get your party back from whatever caused you to lose them. That way you could have the challenge of adapting to a Pokémon you haven't been able to level grind and that might not have the type of moveset or playstyle you're used to (like, probably dumb example, but say you get a Shuckle who can only kill via status and moves like Wrap so you have to stall-kill your opponent -- such a segment would hopefully have few trainers since stall can get aggravating easily -- like I said it's probably a bad example).

I never got into hacking, I don't have the time to learn, but I think if I ever made a hack that might be a cool idea. Thoughts?

ye I've been landing a lot of small GETs over the course of the last two ROMhacks.

after beating Senex and returning from the point where it all goes a bit nuts, I'm instructed to go to Gym Island (which was why I had to go through catching Roclobster) for a celebration party.

Only problem is...I don't know where to go. I've already beat all the gyms and that one run by Asimov is just a load of deliberately glitched tiles.

Caught that ice/dragon legendary, doesn't appear to have any fuckoff-huge stats like the other silly fakemon do. Although it did only take me five minutes as opposed to the 25 that Turmur took me.

I -did- fight that superboss some anon mentioned, Discharge from Raikou was a 3HKO.

I also know I was meant to get HM04 Strength from Asimov yet I've not got that yet either.

Eh I'll see if theres anything I'm missing and if not I'll just call it finished and start playing Resolute. Not like Shaderu is worth getting all 50 broken hearts for either

Not really. Don't think that it's good because of that one part, other parts are shit. You aren't supposed to evolve Bulbasaur or Squirtle and only Bulbasaur comes with an everstone. There's parts in the game where you must have them unevolved in your party to do something, and eventually when you get to that blastoise island you cannot proceed with the rest of the game if you evolved your squirtle.

Although there is interesting gameplay. You might see this as good or bad but charmelion and charizard act like Pokemon who are too high level for you. They wont obey you most of the time and it gets irritating, but it's like the anime. I haven't gotten far enough to see if he obeys you in a future part.
One thing I did think was pretty cool was gym battles. If you have more than the amount of Pokemon the gym wants you to have then you will have the PC screen open and you will be able to deposit some Pokemon in or take some out. This makes battles a lot fairer (in some cases) and more interesting because you have to go 3v3 with people like Blaine

Ye just checked. Apparently I wasn't meant to have gone to Gym Island before defeating Senex at the Necropolis. Now not only does Asimov not appear to give you HM04 Strength, but Senex doesn't appear at Asimov's gym to battle you in Pokemon form. Apparently it's an unfixed glitch.

Nothing more I can do.

The game's over. Going to download Resolute now. If anyone wants me to re-post any image from Snakewood that I have, feel free to ask.
