Will pokemon ever die? I think it's too big of a product to really see it dying any time soon. We may be into something like gen 26 before it dies.

At some point, it obviously will. Whether it is a graceful death and there comes a time when Gamefreak recognizes they can't keep it going any longer, or it'll die a terrible death through excessive milking in the relatively distant future until Pokemon becomes a name no one really cares about anymore.

There will be a point where they just can't possibly keep adding more and more Pokemon.

My guess is that they'll either just make new generations WITHOUT adding new Pokemon.

Or, also possible, but less likely, they completely start a new series A LA digimon and try to change mechanics or do weird things like fusions.

My guess is that around 1000 Pokemon (At least 2 or 3 gens more), they will completely try to stop adding Pokemon,

I wouldn't mind fusions, the only problem would be that it would need to be a small generation to be able to pull it off properly.

Again, my guess is that they would make "A new generation" disregarding all past Pokemon and just starting fresh but with the new fusion mechanic.

As OP says, the franchise is way too big to die, but I also feel they wouldn't just LET it die. But at the same time, imagine trying to balance a game with over 1000 characters, at some point they're just bound to stop.

I see it like pro-wrestling in America.
After the big boom of it being a mainstream phenomenon it will play it extremely safe/get stale, never reaching it's pinnacle again but due to having a big amount of hooked for lifers it will be profitable for the foreseeable future.
Another similar trait they share is pandering on nostalgia (Attitude Era for WWE while Genwun and remakes for Pokemon) in hopes to increase their fanbase but ultimately these people enticed in rarely stay.

I think sometime soon, there will be apokemon ripoff that will be more popular than the one GF makes, and pokemon will forever be ramabered as 'the original one, that started it all.'

This makes me think of something I've pondered for a while; what if Nintendo made their own kind of cellphones, with Pokemon games exclusive to them? They'd satisfy both the side that thinks Nintendo should go mobile and those that still want a great Nintendo handheld. It might have its controls (and second screen?) on a part that slides under the main screen. Maybe it'd have an eShop with older Nintendo titles for... eh, maybe the same price they go for in the regular 3DS eShop - I think that old classics are too good to go for ten cents, but that might just be me.

I dunno. Is this stupid, unfeasible, or both?
