They retconned a type before. Gen II gave us steel and they added it onto a couple of gen I Pokemon, Magnemite and Magneton. Of course that was pretty trivial compared to how many types got a new fairy typing, but still, same sorta thing.

I didn't really look at steel the same way because pokemon wasn't as established at the time, everything was new and I expected improvements.

Fairy comes in when Pokemon has been established and changes pokemon that have been around for 10+ years.

I feel like I'm explaining it poorly but I think you can get the idea

That's regular Gallade though. We still have no idea what its mega stats are like.

On top of that, close combat from Jolly Gallade is an OHKO for 4 HP M-Khan which is the one most people run.

In other words, we have no idea how the meta will evolve until we have all megas at hand and we can use them in VGC. Because that's the only relevant meta, lol.

Hold up, how are Spritzee and Aromatisse not partially inspired by plague doctors? They wear white bird masks and their whole deal is perfume. They didn't go with the classic image of plague doctors that so many deviantautists sperge about, sure, but their design/concept clearly implicates the concept a little bit

There is literally no pokemon based on ice cream. There's a pokemon based on glaciers and snow that are cleverly designed to look like ice cream.

There is also a pokemon based on trash in the effort to make pokemon represent the world comprehensively. Waste is part of our world, and the digusting/atrocious/monstrous appeal is necessary--not every pokemon should be Lucario and Pikachu. In fact, pokemon based on waste have existed since Koffing and Grimer.

Anyone who believes that there is a pokemon made of ice cream or that a pokemon based on trash is a bad thing, regardless of whether you like the specific designs, clearly doesn't even play pokemon or participate in the franchise.

Having pokemon that went from only being weak to Fighting, to now resisting Fighting is a bit more noticeable.

I'm fine with the Fairy type and retcon, but yeah, the gen 6 retcon was a lot more risky than the gen 2 retcon.
