But it'd be nice if he made tangible progress that he didn't lose the second a new season started. I mean, yeah, that's a problem brought on by the show's format, but that's precisely why a protagonist switch every region would be better.
I, at least, don't particularly care to watch 100+ repetitive episodes of a show only for the protagonist to lose in the same place he did after the previous set of 100+ episodes, often in the same exact way. The anime is also *very* "paint-by-numbers". I think XY has been a bit better so far in that regard, but Ash is still losing to total novices.
I'm still hedging my bets on him going to the Kalos League or whatever, beating some recurring rival, then losing to a new character introduced toward the beginning of the tournament. Hopefully he'll at least have six Pokemon this time.
