I hated them. Made everything too jerky and fast, especially with their shit speed adjustment controls. I prefer walking/running anyway. Makes it feel like a real adventure.

The whole point of the roller blades was that you didn't need to access the menu to use them. They were instantaneous and easy to use, which meant you couñd have the shortcuts occupied by other thibgs rather than the bike.

I still think that it'd be better without them. You know, the hitchking and all makes things feel way more real

Imagine if XY had had an actually decent engine that could handle routes three or four times as large as it can. Then we'd have routes that'd be enjoyable both on foot and on the skates, and that'd take more than a few seconds to get through.

No? The only point there that I can honestly see is that the routes felt short, but that's partially because they ARE short. Not to mention we've always had a bike anyway.

But the rest of that? Having problems moving around? Again, it just seems like you guys don't play non turn-based games, because this is elementary-level shit.

I loved being able to walk using the circle pad in those few places where the rollerblades didn't work. People hated them because the fucked up the speed of movement and gave the player a confusing and frustrating momentum. The D-Pad would have been a fine alternative if it wasn't positioned in the periphery of the 3DS and made your hand cramp. I had to use the little stand that came with Kid Icarus to use the D-Pad after a while.

Roller blades would have been fine if they were only for specific routes like the one with the grind rails or you could toggle them. The fact that they become permanent with the preferable control stick made everything so frustrating. It shouldn't be so hard to enter a pokemon center but because the buildings in X/Y were still on a grid and the roller blade movement wasn't, it took actual effort to use a fucking door. Maybe I sound lazy, but I play pokemon for the RTS elements and exploration, not motor skill control bullshit.

You see, the thing is that in proper 3D games with circle/joystick movement, movement isn't a problem. The problem is that X/Y were a half-assed mix of 3D elements and movement while still maintaining a grid overworld. If they were fully 3D games, people wouldn't be complaining, provided you could also toggle them.

I'd also say that most people don't play pokemon games for the challenging physical gameplay. It's an RTS.
