its true that an item is better than 20 points on a mediocre stat in most cases, speed and defense being sorta exceptions because items that boost those either dont exist or are unfortunately limiting, but in theory megas will always be better than items
gamefreak is just overbalancing some of the megas and dumping too much into shit stats
it was a good thing for megasaur because mixed bulk is his niche, but giving gardevoir +20 attack is just stupid
marowak and pikachu are the only things that would be difficult to give a mega at this point, because their preexisting special items already outclass a megastone
theyd need perfect stat distribution and great abilities to even be considerable
