Flareon at least hits hard as loving hell. Magcargo doesn't really do anything except die. Heatmor is also pretty damn bad.

Emboar is a lot better, it's RU at least.

Heatmor is probably worse but is nice in NU as a mixed attacker with hard coverage to wall & access to sucker punch.

Camerupt is most definitely worse though.

Camerupt is a choice to consider in some Trick Room teams because of muh Eruption and a rather good STAB combo. It's also one of the few Ground types to have a decent spacial attack. Not to mention two weaknesses/five resists.

The absolute worst Fire Types have to be Magcargo and/or Darminitan-Zen.

Would it be top-tier if it was a separate form instead? It's bulky enough to tank hits from either side of the spectrum alongside having nuclear 140 special attack.

It's still a lot more than you can say about other pokemon mentioned in this thread.

I'm not saying Camerupt isn't terrible, but it's not 100% hopeless as, say, Magcargo. Despite that thing having an interesting movepool and reliable recovery, it can't use it at all because of bad typing, speed, and 410 BST.

It'd have to exist as a separate evolution because it still doesn't have the movepool to support it.

Outside of Psychic and Fire Blast it has Grass Knot and Focus Blast, which wouldn't be so bad if it weren't slow as all hell, no way to increase the stats it needs and super vulnerable to Knock Off.

As a split evo it would have many more options like Trick Room and Calm Mind, and it would have a working ability.

why did GF decided do make it so shitty anyway? it comes pretty late ingame and all it gets is a crappy type with crappy stats, even the pretty good movepool that it has couldn't save it

I guess it's one of those gimmick Pokemon that is fun to catch and maybe use in-game, but not to use in any serious competition.

Not everything needs to be Mega Kangaskhan tier viable anyway.

How to save Magcargo:

Doubles with Kecleon
First turn, Magcargo protects, Kecleon Trick Rooms.
Second turn, Kecleon uses Skill Swap onto Magcargo, gives it Protean instead of Weak Armor. Magcargo uses a move. Now it isn't a shit type.

Proceed to sweep with Magcargo as Kecleon gives out Weak Armor to some enemy.

A gimmick mon is something like Relicanth who can at least pull of a sweep under the right circumstances.

Magcargo is DU tier. You'd need to ban like 90% of FE Pokemon for it to be usable.

Don't diss Magcargo. It's one of my MVPs in Gen VI and it's been on my team almost constantly for a year. It hatches eggs like a fucking incubator, and tanks Audino's Take Downs like they're nothing.
