Gen V had some of the most creative and varied Pokemon designs, along with Gen III. IV had the worst, ugliest Pokemon, and by ugly I don't mean stuff like Stunfisk (which is based off an ugly animal, like really what were you expecting), I mean ugly like Drapion's horribly constructed spiky circle body, Garchomp's glued-on spikes and Rhyperior. And if they weren't ugly, they were utter garbage statwise with a few exceptions. The best designs from that gen were the cross-gen evolutions.
However, I would say that the worst gen for Pokemon introduced overall is II, because despite the fact that the designs were decent to great, the concepts behind them were garbage. It's as if they didn't want people to be excited for new Pokemon, and just wanted them to use their Kanto favorites instead. The gym leaders sure did, I was appalled upon finding out that Morty didn't use a fucking Misdreavus.
People that whine about Pokemon being parallels to ones from an older gen are complete retards and should not be allowed to speak when adults are talking.
Megas are a good concept and I like a lot of the designs, but they need to balance them alongside cross-gen evolutions.
Platinum wasn't that hard. It was fun, a decent challenge, but I had more of a struggle with Emerald. In fact I still consider Emerald a slightly better game overall, even with Platinum's improvements.
