VGCs have brackets that cater specifically to adults, like he said, and the TCG online game is easily mostly for older players; from what I remember, 9/10 kids who collected Pokemon cards never actually played the game or knew how, and from what I've seen now, that still rings true.
I don't particularly care what the things I do are classified as as long as it's not classified as "illegal," but...

That said, I found that a general thing of "treat them nice and play with them a lot" typically gets you a nice creature to play with, so it's not super ridiculous or anything unless there's a very specific one you want to get, or if Digimon was different.
