- The quadrants are a bit more loose, though the general principle of "always go for a patch 4 tiles away" stands
- Patches in the corner or in a direct line seem safe in genVI, as opposed to their higher risk in genIV
- There's different levels of patch shaking strength - you always want the strong shake, keep sound on so you hear which shake you're getting, always reset if you don't get a strong shake. Additionally, there's no "flash shake" and "regular shake" distinction with different Pokémon available and having to stick with one - everything you want is in the strong shake, and you should never walk into anything else.
Those are my impressions from chaining a lot in genIV, and doing some genVI chaining (~10 chained shinies). The Smogon genIV guide is good in general, even if things have changed a bit.
