OFFICIAL Champion Tier List
God Tier:
Gary - doppelganger motif, persistent rival, Shonen-style final battle against the boy who was always one step ahead of you, symbol and marker of protagonist's growth
High Tier:
Cynthia - cool, good character design, unexpected champion, but no special relationship to main character aside from helping us out for no particular reason
Lance - mutual respect with protagonist, feels like epic confrontation (especially with dragon theme), has a student-student relationship with a gym leader
Mid Tier:
Alder - venerable guru champion, had nothing to do with the plot, doesn't feel like an important confrontation, too friendly, battle music sucks
Stephen - bland, doesn't actually factor into the plot (i'm in a cave! thanks for the letter! here's a telescope!) but introduced very early and a surprise to see as champion, cool battle music and rare pokes
Low Tier:
Iris - where the hell did you come from you were fine as a gym leader
Wallace - same why are you here you're not important i don't care about you as a character
Shit Tier:
Diantha - literally who I had to search 'champion' on bulbapedia because i didn't even remember your name you were so forgettable
