It's not a great game in any way at all. Honestly the plot, while still daft, is greatly improved over DR1 and things aren't as hideously broken as Fire/Dark wonderguard fakemons and Dread Lugia with 1010 BST.

Granted, many parts are just 'generic pokemon game' and the music is absolutely awful.

(nothing much of interest happening since our raid on the Omega Utopia. Just a couple generic ice routes.)

Yup, back in Resolute where, while it became considerably less full of hatred at Evolution, Talonflame on there lacked Gale wings, SD, flare blitz, brave bird or ANYTHING to warrant its use over the easily obtainable Delphox early game

Over in DR2 it's known as Fletchindr, and on evolution has even LESS moves, if the wild talonflame I caught here >>21078606 is anything to go by

Got my arse handed to me by a Darugis-possessed Pyramid King Brandon (from emerald's battle frontier) with a lv75 Regi trio and a lv80 Regigigas WITHOUT slow start.

also it appears choice band either only works for physical attacks (so I need to find choice specs) or does not provide any benefits at all.

guess I'm grinding on the mid-60 ice types in arctic cavern for a while

Little update from the Crystal Kaizo guy; the only way I was able to beat Will was by swapping out my Feraligatr for Suicune and leveling it up to 100 (didn't take long given Lv. 115 opponents and Lucky Egg), and even then I lost all Pokémon except Suicune at 15 HP when I won. I have tons of Revives and Hyper Potions on hand because I spent money every chance I got so a loss wouldn't set me back, but this shit is ludicrous and I'm only past the first E4 member.

Does using Rest while Sleep Talking cause you to go back to sleep in normal Gen II? Because I'm up against a Double Team/Rest/Sleep Talk/Toxic Shuckle with Leftovers and it's regaining all its health when it Rest Talks.

I can see that.

Koga had his whole theme changed, I noticed. While he still has a couple Poison types, he worked entirely around Evasion and Toxic stalling; thank God his Shuckle was the only one that had Rest Talk.

This is how closely I'm avoiding wiping out. Thank goodness I'm getting like 30,000 per E4 member thanks to my Amulet Coin, because I'm using like 10 revives per battle.

Right, though I don't know how I can get Haze on my team. I taught Suicune Roar, maybe that'll help if things get really bad. For Shuckle I just switched back and forth between my Venemoth and an already poisoned Pokémon to stall out his PP, the rest I barely scraped by.

Bruno kicked my ass, he doesn't have Evasion spam but he had a Rest Talk Ursaring after his Heracross and Machamp took out half my team. Gonna stock up on Full Heals and Revives, went to see my Mom and she had about $100000 saved for me so that'll go to good use.

Actually her team is pretty good. Took a long time to grind through her last Pokémon; it was a Lv. 120 Umbreon with Moonlight/Double Team/Toxic/Confuse Ray. Switched between Venemoth and my paralyzed Dragonite to stall out its PP and spammed HJK with Hyper Potions to take care of the recoil until it hit enough times to kill it.

Okay, it's time to take on Lance! I'm saving here so that I don't have to grind through the E4 again since I have plenty of Hyper Potions and Revives left and dying won't help me any.

Plan to give a full layout of his team, levelwise and strategy-wise.

Okay, so,

Lv. 117 Kangaskhan that spammed Double-Edge. Took an HJK and a Mach Punch to keep it from killing anyone.

This was followed up by a Lv. 117 Aerodactyl. To my surprise, it has Sky Attack and didn't need to charge it to use it. Reduced my Suicune to 10 HP before Surf finished it off. So far haven't lost anyone.

Lv. 117 Jolteon, spammed Thunderbolt against Electabuzz, surprised it didn't have Earthquake on it. Brought Electabuzz down to yellow.

Next was Lv. 120 Tyranitar. Absolutely wrecked my team with Ancientpower (it boosted), Earthquake, and Thunderbolt. Lance used his two Full Restores trying to keep it alive, but Hitmonchan took it down with Mach Punch, leaving it the only team member alive.

Next was Lv. 120 Kingdra. I knew Hitmonchan couldn't kill it, so I revived Dragonite and sacked Hitmonchan. Dragonite tanked a Double-Edge while I revived my Suicune, and then I started spamming Hyper Potions (and a couple Max Potions I had saved since this was the best time to use them) and Revive to get my entire team back to yellow since Kingdra was (surprisingly) having trouble killing Dragonite, not knowing any Ice- or Dragon-type moves. Kingdra crit in the middle of that, so I sent out Venemoth to try to Stun Spore; it got killed, so I revived Dragonite again, and after reviving Venemoth healed it. It tanked an Octazooka from Kingdra, stunned it, and I got my entire team back to full health.

It wasn't until I finished that it revealed it had Rest Talk, after it was too late to do it any good. After it ran out of Double-Edge, to keep from running out of my universally low PP I switched between Suicune and Dragonite to stall out Resttalk and Octazooka.

Final Pokémon was Lv. 120 Dragonite. Critted it with Ice Beam from Suicune before it even attacked, kinda anticlimactic but better than being potentially swept.

Got to the Hall of Fame, took a screen just to save my team.

That was an amazingly hard experience. I'm glad I shared it with you.

Also how do tm's and breeding work in these hacks? I like how glazed has move tutors that can teach any move to any pokemon. The towns are a lot bigger than the normal games but they're just filler and don't add to the story or gameplay.

For this one I just picked it out of Pokécommunity. I wanted to play what I assumed to be a bad hack since other people were doing it, though I had to wait a few days since I was banned at the time. I'm still surprised at how good the difficulty curve is (until the E4 hits you like a freight train, but they give you every opportunity to grind and throw Lv. 100 wild Pokémon at you to select from if you need a spare party member like my Venemoth was).

If you mean finding things like the levels and moves, I just went by observation for Lance, but you could easily just download a trainer editor to see all the specs for any trainer you want.

Also, while I was planning on stopping at Lance because fuck, I can't be fighting Lv. 120 Pokémon nonstop, I went onto the S. S. Aqua and the trainers were back down to Lv. 100, so I imagine the retardedly high levels will be reserved for Gym Leaders and such. So, I'll continue through Kanto. The hack, plotwise, is exactly the same as Crystal, so I'll only update for things like Gym Leaders or if I fight something really bizarre. I might bail out before I get to Red because I almost quit at the E4, but I'll do my best to struggle through this.

Okay I was dead wrong about that I went to Vermillion and trainers went up to Lv. 115 before getting to Surge.

Now, as to Surge himself, he seems really hyper offense for the most part. I think I'll do these play-by-plays for all the Gym Leaders since they tell more than pictures could do.

Lv. 120 Raichu, Seismic Tossed Hitmonchan to death oddly given its high Sp. Attack, finished it off quickly with an Extremespeed.

Lv. 120 Slowbro (weird), took out Electabuzz before it died, then Suicune flinched it with Bite four times in a row, weird.

Lv. 120 (see a pattern) Electabuzz, took out Dragonite, Entei, and Venemoth (who I mainly used to revive other teammates; Venemoth is pretty weak offensively, but it balked a Fire Punch from something 20 levels higher than it so it's my go-to for reviving and statusing) before Hitmonchan finished it off with another Mach Punch.

Then he sends out a fucking Zapdos. Revive Electabuzz quick, it Drill Pecks Hitmonchan, Elect balks a Hidden Power and Ice Punches it and freezes it. It stays frozen until I kill it.

It sends out Porygon2, I switched to Suicune, revived Hitmonchan and others since it took a few turns to kill, and HJK'd it to oblivion (I actually added Hitmonchan to my party specifically because I was being walled by Jasmine's Porygon2).

Final Pokémon was a sweeper Jolteon (all Pokémon were Lv. 120 by the way). It seemed like it could one-shot everything on my team, so I built my strategy around reviving Entei, getting an Extremespeed off, sacking another 'mon to revive Entei, and so on. We won with Entei being the only survivor on both teams.

I'm going to get to bed just because I can tell Kanto's going to be a long challenge and I have work in the morning; I'll continue tomorrow if the thread is still around.

If you want my opinion Kaizo dude on what you should do, I think you'd be better off breeding a hitmontop or hitmonlee with Mach Punch as an egg move just due for the increase damage it'll bring, unless you're really hurting for defense at this point.

I've been doing a Storm Silver hack doing a all grass team. I got Hoppip, Exeggecute, Bayleaf, Bulbasaur, and Leafeon all around 16, at the first gym.

Any tips? I keep dying around the 4th or 5th pokemon in the gym.. :(

Been playing Fire Omega. I haven't really played too many pokemon games but I do really like ROM hacks that make it so I can catch all of the pokemon. It really adds a nice bit of variety while you're going through areas. Going for an all psychic team.

Also, does anyone know if all pokemon are catch able in Liquid Crystal? And does anyone know when it will actually be 100% done? The best actual non-hacked pokemon I played was Crystal and it was by far my favorite (Compared to Yellow and Diamond) and playing a remake sounds like it'd be fun.

Anyone know any good tutorials for hacking the text on the title screen of FR/LG? It's literally the last thing I have to do to finish my romhack and it's actually a huge pain in the ass. All the tutorials I find on google are either about parts of the title screen I'm not trying to edit or involve using photoshop versions from like five years ago.

All I'm trying to do is change the part that says "Fire Red" to something else. This shouldn't be so fucking difficult.

I have balked a few hits I wouldn't've as Hitmonlee, but it'd be good to see if Hitmonlee does better, and it wouldn't take that long to get it to Lv. 100 because of all the experience thrown at you.

Strange really, because as soon as I cleared Brandon from settting up to +6 attack and speed on his Registeel the optional route's grass had level 75s on it, with both of the Lati@s at the end of it...at level 55. I didn't bother catching them yet because Snakewood gave me a large hatred of catching legendaries and I already have a dragon type.

Seems DRG wanted lots of anime cameos in her game, which explained why I'd ended up against Gary, Dawn and Iris for little reason. The latter of which when I barged into her house I had no idea what it was until I talked to it because I had forgotten Iris existed and she looks weird by default.

Dawn's empoleon balking a +5 dragon claw and OHKO'ing salamence with ice beam was kinda worrying, good thing clawitzer could beat everything from there on

had to re-battle Brandon as a double battle a bit later on in the second fire-themed cave of the game. It was actually quite good and had level 80 chandelures, rhyperiors and magmortars knocking around, as well as drought ninetales and talonflames on the outer grassy area that led up to a level 55 terrakion. again, didn't fight him.

back to brandon, all of his regis had Rest with a lum berry, and I have no idea what ability Regigigas has here because it's not Slow Start and it's not Clear Body.

interesting, the random mons I caught in routes turned out very useful. Maracactus or w/e it's called was able to leech seed everything to keep itself nearly unkillable while grass knotting all the slow bastards, and Talonflame had both brave bird and flare blitz at the 72 I caught it, and was able to blitzkreig the Regice my main two otherwise have a lot of problems with.

It's worth noting at where I currently am, the wild Pokemon are actually higher level than regular trainers - so I'm encountering level 83 Stoutlands and that tuber kid has a level 77 wooper. Yes, wooper. There is absolutely no excuse for that not to be a quagsire now.

anyway this was blaine's gym, a fire/ice gym that existed nothing more than as something for Salamence to drop rocks on. For some reason they are said to have Articuno and Moltres yet don't use them - I don't know but I think they'd be less trouble than a Regigigas without slow start.

Got a single dance off and proceeded to one shot everything two at a time.

In Touhoumon there aren't any real "shitmons", just mons that are better or worse. It's remarkably well balanced, all things considered, and what makes it nice is that even if a mon has what would ordinarily be a really bad nature, you can give it a Shard/Stone to evolve it into a different form with a different stat distribution, allowing it to still be usable.

Ouch. All of Reisen's forms favor Sp.Attack, so Adamant is strictly negative; it's just a matter of degree. Tokiko is a speedy, fragile attacker, so Relaxed isn't great for her either, but it's not as bad as an Adamant Reisen. Oh well! It's not like this is shoddy!

I've never seen a standard nuzlocke that allowed breeding; you'd have to draft your own custom rules up beforehand. For instance, some runs limit you to only using mons of a certain type, so if there are no valid catches on a certain route, you get a "token," which can then be exchanged for one egg. Something like that. Or maybe one egg for every gym you beat as a way to ease you in to the nuzlocke. I dunno.

That's vastly increasing your effective number of catches, though, as the child puppets will then be able to have child puppets of their own, and so forth. It'd basically render the nuzlocke pointless, worded that way. For instance, if you start with eight, you'll be able to get four more. Those four will beget two, and those two will beget one. You've nearly doubled your starting number.

Had to summon the power of Emerald's Battle Frontier for that one, but managed it. Got it down to just above what they might just Full Restore it at, danced six times and clawed it off the stage.

Speaking of cheese, the party's back up to full strength, and I've reached Rustboro. Two Pick Up users, fuck yeah! She even came with a green UFO, and learns Thief by level up.

Now I just have to grind her up to scratch. Is level 12 a good benchmark for taking on Brawly? I suspect Reisen's going to carry me through the gym, since Psyshot is my only SE move until Nazrin learns Thief (assuming it didn't get retyped).

Plot is awful, balance is out of whack entirely (your starters are dragonite/salamence/garchomp and invalidate pretty much everything save for legendaries, other psuedos and things that reliably kill rock/ground types)

the main villain is a Hugh recolour that is artificial difficulty the fight aka LOL GHOST/DARK THAT HAS 1200 BST AND A 200 POWER DARK ATTACK

Her highest level is 17 unevolved, but she, like every other gym leader in this hack, actively covers her type's weaknesses. Basically, if you stroll into Roxanne's gym with a team full of nothing but Flying types and expect to win because you have type-superiority to Beast type, you'll get shat on.

That said, cTewi, in the route just beyond Rustboro, have a chance of carrying Lucky Eggs, so you can use Thief on them and get a couple pretty reliably.

Currently battling Sabrina; I haven't lost yet, but I think there's a good shot at it. Asking just because of possible thread clutter; would it be best if I go over my losses, or only post the ones I win? I haven't lost a battle in Kanto yet which is why it hasn't come up. Or, if I lose multiple times, maybe do an initial battle and a final battle, the latter being cliffnotes of what I did differently to win?

So, play-by-play of Sabrina's kaizo team.

She starts off with a Lv. 120 Jynx. I led with Chan and his extra defenses did not help at all, not that I expected to survive a STAB Psychic. Entei 2HKO's with Falmethrower and Espeed.

After that is Lv. 120 Primeape (maybe borrowed from the Gym next door?). Send out Venemoth who balks a Rock Slide, misses Psychic (a lot of Pokémon have Brightpowder), and is finished off. Dragonite balks and kills it with Fly.

Next is Hypno; it and Electabuzz paralyze each other on the same turn amusingly. I revive my fainted 'mons and bring Hypno to yellow before Elect is taken out by Psychic. Entei finishes it with crit Espeed.

Next is Miltank who absolutely tanks a Mach Punch by Hitmonchan, taking less than 20% before it KO's it with Body Slam. Suicune helps revive party members and I accidentally stall out its Slams while trying to kill it, then switch to my female Dragonite so its EQ and Attract can't hurt me while I stall out Milk Drink. Sabrina wastes a Max Potion on her now worthless 'mon, and I revive my team to full again and finish it off with Chan when it Struggles.

Next is Sing/Psychic/Psywave Espeon. Sleeps Suicune, Entei Espeeds it before much trouble is caused.

Last one is Alakazam; I started my "sack Pokémon to revive Entei and Espeed it repeatedly" strategy, and it only took out half my team before I finished it off and finally won. Team left standing, used about a dozen revives to keep me from losing.

I've stuck with text descriptions since the hack is standard Johto/Kanto (I'd use images if it were something like a custom region to show off interesting/bullshit/cringey moments), but I'll keep that in mind.

Before I look for the next Gym Leader I'm going to see if Kanto has any really good wild Pokémon that I could use to replace anyone.

So Cerulean and Celadon are both blocked off by ledges, I obviously have to go to Lavender. The only worthwhile Pokémon I've found have been Magneton, which while it lacks the elemental punches Electabuzz has, its Thunderbolt is far more powerful and it has better resistances so I'm testing it out; and Persian, who has a really good movepool so I caught one but haven't tested it yet; it has Hypnosis so I might see if it works better than Venemoth (Venemoth's best features were Stun Spore and Toxic immunity; Magneton does the latter and Persian might do the former).

I've found two other trainers with trades for Articuno and Moltres respectively. So far all of the Pokémon needed for it are only in Mt. Silver according to the Pokédex, so I assume this is a way of beefing up your team right before Red, or just a way to get all 251 in your Pokédex. The author of the hack said there's a secret boss with an uncatchable 252nd Pokémon; I don't know what it'll be and I don't plan on spoiling myself, so we'll find out together. No clue if the secret boss is just Red or another trainer like the author's OC.

Kaizo is a general term, usually for Super Mario World since that's where the name started being used, for a brutally hard hack. I've been playing a brutally hard hack of Crystal.

Speaking of such, just got to Fuschia, the Safari Zone is back but it wasn't edited in any way so you can't catch anything there,

Entered Janine's Gym; all five Janines are able to be picked at the start, so it's roulette for whether I get it correctly. Here's hoping I get it on the first couple tries to save me some Pokémon Center trips.

Got it on the fourth try.

So, play-by-play for Janine's Gym:

She started off with Weezing. I started with Magneton expecting Toxic stall like her father had, but she's more offensive. Switched into Suicune to balk the obvious Fire Blast, Weezing used Explosion and took us both out.

Gligar came next; couldn't see team preview so I sent out Magneton again; sacked it to revive Suicune, Suicune one-shotted it with Ice Beam after it got off a Double Team.

Chansey came next, switched into Little Mac, HJK'd it and hit both times to 2HKO.

Crobat followed, switched to Dragonite since Suicune was low on health. 2HKO'd it with Ice Beam, but not before it got off a Sludge Bomb.

Tentacruel came next; switched into Venemoth to sack to revive Magneton, Magneton did not outspeed and was killed, Entei's Espeed took off a third before Surf killed it. Suicune lasted two turns in which I revived Magneton and Entei again, alternated between reviving and Espeeding to try to take it down. At one point I donked Janine using a Max Potion and used the opportunity to take it down to red again with Magneton. One Espeed finished it off.

Final Pokémon was a copypaste of Karen's final, the D-Team/Toxic/Confuse Ray/Moonlight Umbreon. Switched between Venemoth and Magneton to stall it out. After it ran out of PP it still took fifty fucking turns to kill it because I didn't get as lucky with the Evasion hax; it actually KO'd a couple Pokémon with Struggle. Team standings afterward; I actually have more than 99 Revives and 99 Hyper Potions because of all the money thrown at me in this game. So far undefeated in Kanto.

Getting through Rock Tunnel was a pain in the ASS because I just found out Repel doesn't work against Lv. 100 Pokémon. Fast forward helped, but I'm just glad it's over. Stopping here for the night, will try to get the power back on tomorrow.

Spiritomb seems like a safe bet. Magnemite also seems pretty safe. If Slowking has Psychic STAB I'd go with him as well. Not sure about the other three, those are just the ones that seem to have the best advantage for it.

Spiritomb makes me feel like a scrub since it's just too strong and tanky but I'm definitely bringing her. She's got ominous wind, hypnosis, dream eater and faint attack.

Slowking is my favorite bro, he's got confusion, surf, calm mind and rest.

I remember from my practice run that mortys ghosts know all kinds of random ass attacks, specifically thunderbolt and powergem.

Beedrill has Sniper, Nightslash and U-turn with cut and rock smash.

Glaceon should be fine with aurora beam and bite.

Accuracy debuffs don't work on that Momiji, because she's packing cut, which in this hack is a never-miss 60 BP Steel-type move. All the time you spent on debuffing her accuracy you should have been attacking. That said, you can recover from this if you grind like a motherfucker, but it'll be difficult.

I think the Koakuma, but with only two fighters, you're better off leveling her at the moment as well, at least a little. If all else fails and you really feel like you can't get new catches, you can just chuck Orbs and hope for the best.

as for last night, got to the final city (Hyetal) and surprise surprise, can't battle the gym leader yet due to a disturbance elsewhere, and because of a glitch I can't fly directly to Hyetal. There's a direct copy of FRLG's Trainer Tower to the west of it, and apart from the probable E4 vendor it's the only place that sells Full Restores so I bought a stack of 99 given that I had 600K and death only sets you back by about 5% of what you had.

Like the rest of it it's a mess - yes this is an actual spiritomb with spiritomb's ability, stats and type, yet kangaskhan's moves.

Destroyed everything in sight with CB dragon claw until the 5th trainer froze the ROM.

Alright for those who don't know, Pokemon Reborn is an...interesting hack, to say the least. The story is garbage (and quite possibly the edgiest shit I have ever seen in a rom hack) and it's only up to 13 episodes at the moment. It introduces new mechanics in terrain. There's an electric terrain that boosts electric attacks and turns certain moves like Explosion into electric moves, a fire terrain that does damage to non fire type mons (and hurting mons super effective to fire a whole bunch) There's a lot of different terrains so I'll explain each of them as I go.

Reborn has its own site, if you're interested in this game or want to know even more about the terrain effects. The forums are pretty stupid though, but what do you expect from an edgy game?

We being this game with the creator of Reborn (get ready to hear the name Amethyst or Ame) welcoming us to this region. The mon she sends out is predictably Absol. She goes on to talk about how Reborn only has a few Pokemon and how the enviroment is totally fucked up and how soon there'll be no Pokemon at all. Then she talks about some armageddon and the trainers here are among the strongest, EVER.

Oh, and it turns out we were on a train and it explodes.

Well, here's me. There's two different kinds of boys or girls you can be, basically you can choose to be white or black. There's 18 gyms in this game, and right now the game isn't completed. But hey, at least the creator is still actively updating it. The numbers that you see on there are the levels where Pokemon start disobeying you. Reborn has the special privilege of causing any of your mons to disobey you past a certain level, even your starter or your egg mons. To make things less of a headache, there's an item called a Common Candy that reduces a Pokemon's level by one. Neat.

Reborn is kind enough for you to have any starter you want as well as the HA, even for gen 2 and 5 mons. I chose Fennekin this time around. I'm hoping to yoink some good stuff. It also tells you what EVs and IVs your mons has on their stats, which is pretty damn helpful.

Interesting. If I wanted to go with one of my preferred starters I'd take Cyndaquil or Fennekin - if I was looking for consistent performance I'd choose Protean Froakie.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's bloody pointless having something like Darugis owning only a single Pokemon that is practically unkillable via conventional methods when there are a few ways to indirectly kill it.

Instead of the 230 all behemoth, the battle would be a lot more difficult, yet less bullshit, if you faced four of them but with 130 for all stats or the equivalents of the most powerful ubers, eg Scarf Kyogre, GeoXearn, ExtremeKiller etc.

On my previous file I went with Contrary Snivy and people just kept boosting it over and over. Fire mons are a bitch to obtain and you're stuck with Pansear for at least four gyms, so having a fire starter sounds like the way to go.

No but it's fairly fast if you have a good computer. The battle animations are pretty crude and the Pokemon are stationary unless you install an animation mod. There's even a toggle button for running so you don't have to hold a button.

Victoria keeps her word and uses a Tepig that is surprisingly bulky and hits hard. I would have gotten my ass kicked, but after a tail whip I got three scratches in as well as an unneeded critical while Tepig just kept spamming tail whip.

We go to Amethyst afterwards and get our shit registered for the Reborn league. We get a Pokedex as well as a PokeGear that doubles as an iPod. It mostly has ambiance, crap from the person who made the music in this game, music from the game, and Pika Girl. I also get Running Shoes, with the instructions "Fuck it, just run wherever you want". Victoria is kind enough to give me some Pokeballs and I'm off on my merry way.

Right after I left the building there's a cutscene where Amethyst overlooks an interrogation of some sort. The guy doesn't want to squeal and the dectective or whatever threatens to sic his Torkoal and mentions that the criminal is on a metal chair. You can't get to Pewter without going through Diglett Cave or without going to Viridian.

You can't get to Diglett Cave without taking care of Snorlax which needs the power to be turned back on so that's bunk.

You can't go to Pallet through Cinnabar because you need more badges, and the Victory Road way into Viridian is blocked off. I am completely fucked and have to wait until Sunday before I can continue, unless there's a way into Johto that I'm not thinking of. Any ideas?

Got to Erika's Gym; first thing's first, my fear of OHKO spam came true, one trainer's Dewgong Horn Drill'd three Pokémon successfully in a row.

Got to Erika, here's the play-by-play:

Like the last three Gym Leaders, her entire team is Lv. 120. She starts off with Exeggutor. I send out Dragonite, Exeggutor outspeeds and OHKO's with Ice Beam. I send out Entei, OHKO with Flamethrower.

Then she sends out a Politoed. I send out Magneton, get ousped and OHKO'd with EQ. I send out Venemoth, Stun Spore it, revive Magneton (and Dragonite), and then Thunderbolt it. It survives barely, uses Full Restore, and I switched in Dragonite to save myself. Dragonite killed it with D-Edge and Fly.

Next is Nidoqueen, Suicune balks a Thunderbolt and 2HKO's it with Surf. Really offensive battle thus far, I expected status spam.

She sends out a Venusaur, Entei balks an Earthquake due to not having been touched yet, brings it low with Flamethrower, finishes it with Espeed.

After that is Granbull. Hitmonchan HJK's it, -barely- survives a Return (thanks, higher defense), and Mach Punches it to finish it.

Her final Pokémon is Tangela. It takes 33% to a Flamethrower, and takes out four of my team before I whittle it low enough for Entei's Espeed to take it down. Thank goodness Erika had already used all her healing items.

Elemental dogs proved MVP once again, getting almost all the kills. The battle was rather easy compared to the last two Gym battles, probably because it was more offensive and less stallish.

I have no idea where to go now since Celadon didn't seem to lead to anywhere new.

So, Pewter City has new music just like Cerulean, a remix of the Pokécenter music. At this point I'm going to assume the two cities had original music.

So, play-by-play of Brock:

He started out with Steelix; I forgot to switch out Dragonite from the last Gym, but Steelix didn't seem to have any Rock-type moves so I 2HKO'd with Waterfall, though I got para'd.

Next is Brightpowder Aerodactyl with that edited 1-turn Sky Attack; Suicune got 3HKO'd by it and missed Surf once. Sacked Dragonite to revive Suicune and finished it.

Next was Slowking. Magneton almost killed it with Thunderbolt but then Earthquake OHKO'd. Entei got a crit Espeed to take it down.

Met Koga's D-Team/Rest Talk/Toxic Shuckle at a higher level. Stalled its PP with Magneton and Venemoth, healed up my whole party, and Brock switched out like a dumbass after it was already at max Evasion.

He switched into Blissey. I para'd it with Venemoth since she was in at the time, Blissey T-Waved back, I switched into Hitmonchan, and 2HKO'd with HJK, though I got para'd.

It sent out Shuckle, it D-Teamed to max Evasion again, I Roar'd it after I was positive it ran out of D-Teams.

His final Pokémon was Heracross (what the fuck only two Rock-types? The others had at least three of their respective types, and it's not like Rock is as rare as Ghost or Dragon in this game.) It killed Suicune, Entei charred it with Flamethrower.

Shuckle came out one last time, I stalled out Rest, and it took painfully long still to take it out due to its high defenses. A combination of Rock Slide and Metal Claw was enough to do it, though.

I came out of the fight relatively unscathed. Even at Lv. 120 Brock is still an easy Gym Leader.

He sent out Donphan, I sent out Dragonite like I've been doing. He wastes a Full Restore and I kill it with Waterfall with a sliver of health left.

Next comes Ursaring, I send out Entei, it gets 2HKO'd by EQ and Ursaring gets Silver's other healing item. Hitmonchan then 2HKO's with HJK and Mach Punch.

His Alakazam takes out everyone but Suicune and Dragonite. I revive them sacking Suicune, and Espeed kill it.

Next comes Muk. I send out Magneton, which gets killed by a fast Flamethrower. Muk Curses to balk Hitmonchan, and takes that out, then Espeed finishes Muk off.

Silver sends out a Jolteon. I use Dragonite to revive Hitmonchan, and a combination Espeed/Mach Punch takes Jolteon down, leaving me with just a low health Hitmonchan.

Meganium comes out last. I have no fucking idea what to do, I start spamming Revives to see if anyone can balk any attack. Meganium can OHKO all of my team (with them at half health). I send out Entei praying for a OHKO, and to my luck I outspeed and crit with Flamethrower. It's a fucking miracle.

Mt. Moon was really quick, the six trainers on Nugget Bridge were easy enough that I only needed one or two Revives, and I got to Misty without any issue.

I started with Dnite, she started with Kingdra that, like Lance's, had no Dragon- or Ice-type moves. I stalled its Rest Talk out and it actually made me use like $20000 in healing items before I killed it with various attacks (not that that's an issue when each trainer gives like $10000 now with the Amulet Coin).

Next up is Ampharos, Hitmonchan easily 2HKOs with EQ, but gets paralyzed first.

Vaporeon comes out, I send out Magneton, it gets a crit Surf and OHKOs it. I send out Dragonite, revive and heal my team, then 3HKO it with Fly and D-Edge.

Her Lapras takes out my paralyzed Hitmonchan, I whittle it to half health, and it switches out into Marowak.

Marowak kills Entei (I had Entei out to Espeed kill), Suicune OHKOs it with Surf, Lapras comes back out.

Magneton balks an Ice Beam but gets frozen before it can kill. I revive Hitmonchan, and knock it out quickly with HJK.

Final Pokémon is Starmie, outspeeds everything I have. I end up sacking all of my team to keep reviving Entei, who 4HKOs it with Extremespeed, getting me the Cascadebadge. I'm now free to go to Cinnabar and see if the hacker did something to it, since, while all the towns in both regions had at least slight revamps, usually just to make navigating the town more of a pain in the ass, Cerulean and Pewter had much larger redesigns as well as custom music and Cinnabar might too.

So this thing has to have like 255 in every stat and it seems to take neutral damage to everything I throw at it. Through PRZ I was able to take it down, but, yeah, that's pretty underwhelming. SHF's next Pokémon finished off my team.

Also apparently the sprite it has changes depending on what was sent out last, and when you go to your items pocket the sprite breaks into a glitchy mess. I don't think this was worth hyping up in his Pokécommunity thread, I expected something cooler.

Anyway, Blaine.

He starts with Typhlosion. Dragonite takes it out, Blaine blows both his healing items on it, Dragonite is left with 3 HP and a burn.

Next Blaine, like Pryce and Surge with their respective birds before him, sends out Moltres. A really fucking strong Moltres. It Sky Attacks Hitmonchan, Fire Blasts Magneton, and Hidden Power/Sky Attacks Suicune, until Entei Espeeds it.

Next is Kangaskhan. It can easily kill my whole team with Double-Edge, so I decide to save Revives by spamming Hyper Potions on Dragonite. When it's low enough from recoil (and when it crit kills Dragonite), I Espeed kill it.

Next comes Meganium, I already know what's going to happen so I stay in, spam Flamethrower until I die, revive Entei with Hitmonchan, and Flamethrower again to kill it.

After that comes Clefable. I revive a couple Pokémon, and then have Hitmonchan balk an Ice Beam to HJK/Mach kill it.

His final Pokémon is Entei. I send out Suicune, balk a super-effective Hidden Power, bring it to half with Surf, use a Max Potion, balk a combined Espeed/HP, and Surf it a second time for a win.

All I have left is Blue, then Mt. Silver and Red, and I can be done with this exercise in masochism; though, it's been fun masochism at least.

Next comes Machamp. I send out Venemoth forgetting Machamp has rocks, and predictably got rocked. Machamp's EQ/Rock Slide/Cross Chop brutalizes my team, but due to the latter two's accuracy I take it down without whiting out. Entei's all that's standing afterward.

Next comes predictable Kingdra, I wall it as usual with Dnite while I stall it out and revive my team. Kingdra always has the best timing, I don't know why it was given such a shitty set yet it's on so many high profile trainers. After I get to full and Kingdra runs out of offensive attacks, Magneton 3HKOs.

Next comes Houndoom. It crits a super effective HP that Suicune barely balks, then Suicune crits a Surf that wipes it out.

After that is Tauros. I send out Little Mac but then a third crit happens in a row as it D-Edge OHKOs him. It KO's Venemoth while I revive Hitmonchan, I use my almost KO'd Suicune to bring him to full health (where Tauros gets a fourth crit in five turns), and Hitmonchan and Entei team up to take it down for good, leaving Suicune, Entei, and Dnite left.

Blue's final Pokémon is Mew. I think that might be a callback to the author's Blue Kaizo where Blue had a Mew, dunno though since I never played it for more than five minutes.

Anyway, Mew has a helluva strong Psychic, but Suicune and Dnite can both balk it at half health; I use this to revive as many party members as I can, and plan to start spamming Espeed, but then I realize I ran out already this battle. I get a lucky burn off with Flamethrower but Mew has a Miracleberry. I use Hyper Potions to keep Entei alive trying to get a second burn, and get a lucky crit to take Mew down before it can heal it back with Softboiled.

Overall, hardest battle I've had in Kanto (except the "bonus" boss with the 255 stat glitched hackmon). All that's left is getting to Red. First thing to do is catch I think Snorlax to trade for Mewtwo.

Not particularly. It has a pretty screwy level curve, it lacks the balance of later versions, and the post-game is an interminably long parade of broken English and bullshit. It's not the worst hack out there, mind you, but if you want to play Touhoumon I wouldn't recommend it.

Oh shit that's because it's the summit where Red is, I didn't realize since I grew up with Silver.

Okay, time for the most hype battle I've ever had. Red starts off with Lv. 127 Espeon (the game never went above 127, I wonder if there's a technical reason for that even though Gen I could go to 255). I start off with Dragonite since that hasn't steered me wrong. They go back and forth, I manage to use up all of Red's healing items with his Espeon and finish it off with Dragonite KO'd and Entei at about 60%.

Red follows up with Suicune; I go into Mewtwo to not be outdone, and Thunderpunch it to oblivion, because one thing I learned from playing this is Suicune has pretty mediocre Sp. Attack and I could balk the night away.

This is immediately followed by Raikou; I go into Entei, get outsped (obviously), and go into Magneton. I T-Wave twice to take care of the Miracleberry, revive Entei while Raikou finishes Magneton, go into Hitmonchan, and EQ the everloving fuck out of it.

Red sends out a Celebi because he clearly prepared for this even more than I have. I go into the revived Entei, but Celebi outspeeds and Ancientpowers him. Mewtwo brings Celebi down to around 33% with Fire Punch before he's KO'd, and Suicune balks the shit out of Celebi while I revive Entei, though Celebi regains health during such. I also got a lucky FRZ, but Miracleberry. Entei gets off an Espeed before kicking it, and with Hitmonchan I revive Mewtwo, who Fire Punches Celebi down for good.

Post is too long, so splitting it into two, battle is still going currently.

Red sends out his own Dragonite, with Extremespeed to boot. His last Pokémon happens to be the king of GSC OU himself, Snorlax. I test my Revives to find that Mewtwo and Dragonite can sometimes take two hits, and I use them to build my team back up.

Then Snorlax starts using Curse and my strategy falls apart. Due to the speed drop, though, I could paralyze him, and he didn't immediately Rest. I went into Hitmonchan, hit HJK three times in a row while Snorlax was paralyzed before he EQ'd me. Snorlax was down to a sliver, my last Pokémon was Suicune, and I thanks to para I got off a Surf, knocking Snorlax out and winning me the game.

Overall, playtime was about 55 hours on the in-game clock with emulator speed. This was definitely the hardest Pokémon game I've played (though I'm sure I could find harder), and I'm glad I played through it to the end. I would've stopped after Lance if people didn't speak up about their interest in the hack, so thanks for motivating me, /vp/.

I might start another hack tomorrow or Sunday; if it's something like Victory Fire/Snakewood/etc. where there are more points of interest I'll try to do a playthrough similar to CITF's instead of just battle summaries, which I did here just because the whole point of the game is how hard the battles are; are there any games anyone wants to see played? I'm willing to do recommendations. I tend to lean toward earlier Gens if a hack from one of those has especial interest, though I'm fine with any Gen as long as it's interesting (whether by being good or by being horrible and cringey).

The first Google results are disappointing: incomplete projects, trade evos not changed, pokemon distribution still sucking etc.

Crystal Kaizo anon here, it's good, but, like I said, it's HARD. They don't even pretend to pull any punches after you get to Kanto, though a couple sets are a bit weird like Kingdra only having Octazooka and Double-Edge for coverage. All the trade evolutions have been changed to level-up (except Slowking who's now Water Stone), and all 251 can be gotten, though the Kanto legendaries and Celebi can't be gotten until Mt. Silver since you need to trade for them.

Distribution is pretty good; you can get baby Pokémon as early as the route before Violet, and there's usually a catch nearby that you could grind up to face your current Gym Leader; biggest one for me was getting Hitmonchan to face Jasmine. Most of the ones you catch in the wild already have good movesets, though you'll need to go to TMs for a few.

Sure, I've played up to like the first Gym but that was years ago and I think they released a newer version of it since so it's a good spot to start over.

Couldn't be arsed to finish Dark Rising 2. Turns out there isn't a post-game and once I'd beaten the sort-of-E4 and Darugis that was it. Not worth spending several hours grinding Arceus up to 100 for.

So, we're moving on. What? To a better game? Naw. Glazed.

Crystal Kaizo anon; after figuring out how the hell the patching tool works, I got myself Brown. Tripping up just so I don't get lost in the crowd since CITF is active.

We start off meeting Professor Tim, who introduces us to the Rijon region. He shows us a Gligar, and we have the standard RB trainer sprite for us.

We start off in Seashore City: "Where waves of new journeys begin their long travels." Going around talking to NPCs, I find out my rival (didn't name them) is named Muda. The professor isn't in this town, so I'm heading to the next. There's a Gym blocked off by a tree, so I imagine I'll be back here later.

I suck at nicknames so I just stole from the first Pokémon movie. Battle was the same as vanilla Red, Muda ran off, and I find out I'm in Gravel Town -- "A quiet mountain town."
