Okay, so I have an idea for pokemon that would make it more interesting while not messing up the formula, just tweeking it to make it look fresh So first>You start in the same town, but everything is open world, the entirety of the map is open, the areas of solid trees? They're a forest you can walk into. >Make it kinda like gta, final fantasy, or elder scrolls in that respect >Certain areas, like certain dungeons, evil team bases, victory road, and places that have a purpose later in the game >The game has different quest or storylines that are separate. For example, gym leaders and e4 are a questline, evil team is a questline, with various others, like legendaries, similar to crystal. >These are extended significantly to make it more challenging, like having to prove yourself to a gym leader to challenge, and the evil team requiring investigation throughout the setup of their plot. >Gym leaders are leveled, and have different teams depending on your levels or amount of badges, whichever makes it works better Thoughts?

I think your idea is Garbodor.

>>21092165 I think everyone has had this idea in their minds at one point. Unforunately Nintendo will never create a game like this because then it will become the best pokemon game therefore they won't need to make anymore which means no more profit.
I just hope before I die, which is approx 50-60 years, they will make this game..

>>21092165 Sorry on the third point bout certain areas, and places that have a purpose later in the game, require HM or items to open them. That makes towns and stuff open, and makes you feel free, but you don't jump the gun and get to a place you shouldn't be in at that point in the story
>Also, events are timed based on what you've done in the quest line, requiring them to be activated, like certain people, pokemon, events or items not showing up until they're logically supposed to. These two take the issue of pacing and getting to different towns away, so you could go to any town and not interfere with anything.

>>21092184 What do you not like about it?
>>21092206 I feel like this keeps the classic pokemon mechanic and doesn't fix whats not broken, but it makes it feel fresh by adjusting the world and makes everything feel like an adventure that is up to you. Contests could also be a storyline, and be expanded upon. The only issue, is certain areas should have weaker pokemon than others, like they do now. But I don't know how to do that without closing the open world with a level barrier.

A little off topic, but I've been trying to think of a status condition that lowers special attack, like burn does attack. Any ideas? I've been trying to think of something that interferes with the mind or brain.

>>21093292 Yeah, but I can't thing of anything. I thought concussed, but that's basically confusion.Maybe possessed or something? Works kinda like paralysis, with a chance to not attack, and lowers special attack.
Anonymous
>>21093344 I think like;
>Xmon is being controlled! >Xmon resisted possesion! >Xmon used xmove! or
>Xmon is being controlled! >Xmon was prevented from moving from mind control! It can't move! I saw an episode of doctor who where there were aliens using blood control to threaten people with making them kill themselves, but they couldn't be made to jump because the survival instinct is too strong. So you would move at normal speed to avoid injury and using your full strength to attack while your conscience is being manipulated because of your reflexes and sub conscience. I'm kind of grasping at straws here, but its pokemon.

>>21092165 A complete open world game like an MMO is JUST NOT HAPPENING. Not with 721+ pokemon and dozens of different trainers, even if you do it all in one region.
As for the other ideas...
I would like for there to be a main plot like in pokemon. But having sidestories involving gym leaders, the evil teams, other NPCs and pokemon are pretty cool.
I'd expand on the "gym leaders are leveled" bit. I'd have it based on how many badges for one. Make it a 3 vs. 3 with six pokemon. Then the Gym Leader will use certain pokemon based on your skill level. (I.E. a one hit knockout will make him bring out his strongest pokemon).

>>21093259 I'd say Fear or something. Special Attack and Defense are lowered. And commands occasionally fail, something like paralysis, only mental.

Leave the mainline games the way it is and let GF handle it.

>>21102895 I think the defense thing is kinda broken, but the special attack thing is on the right track. Something that interferes with the mind. Maybe like a pacify affect, where it loses will to fight about 33% of the time, and lowers special attack?

>>21105142 I think that the levels and evolutionary stages of the pokemon on the route should be set based on what gym is closest to, and decided by the order you do it. For example, all the wild pokemon would be the same level, then you beat a gym. The pokemon on the adjacent routes get stronger. Two badges? Pokemon on adjacent routes get stronger. Wash, rinse, repead. Victory road would be locked til the end, since needing eight badges is still required to enter.
Anonymous
>>21105028 Not that I think your ideas are bad, but from a programming perspective, and a bit of a gameplay perspective, what you are suggesting is kind of huge. For one, in order for it to be open world you'd have to have the wild pokemon and the trainers all have dynamic levels and the gym battles as well depending on some factor, such as (and probably the most logical) the number of badges you've collected. This does take quite a different approach to the programming aspect. From a gameplay aspect, it also seems to have a large impact on the way the game is played, but in that sense it only makes it more dynamic which I think many people would agree is an all around good thing.
Anonymous
>>21105225 True, which is why I wouldn't have suggested it for this gen, or any previous ones. But they can do some amazing things with games now, and pretty soon a DS could have the same capabilities as something like the ps2, xbox, or game cube, maybe more. My main thing is that gamefreak has a good, successful thing going, and they could add more freedom and pacing changes to make it seem fresh and new.
Anonymous
>>21105270 I have my doubts that gamefreak would do such a thing, too much fear of "ruining" their cashcow making them too afraid to wiggle out of the norms they've set in place, but if they did so it would be incredibly awesome to have more freedom and fluidity in the games.
Anonymous
>>21105315 Yeah, again, I wouldn't have suggested it before this gen, but something like mega evolution being introduced means they are open to ideas.
Anonymous
>>21105412 I agree that they do seem a little bit okay with wiggling out of their norms, but just look at all the pandering they did to genwunners with the Megas. Charizard getting two mega evolutions? Complete bullshit.
Anonymous
>>21105472 I think I didn't elaborate well my point here. Just that, the reason they moved out of their box is to pander to people and rake in old players to generate more cash. Yes, they did make a decent amount of megas and they weren't all bad, but there was no small amount of pandering.

The player can chose "classes" that add to certain game play aspects. Ace Trainers: Increase variety of move pool their mons have access to. Breeders: Decrease time for eggs to hatch, can set up mini day-care in Secret Base. Coordinators: Berries grow faster, held items are slightly improved, access to WiFi Contests just shooting the breeze, perhaps someone can think of better perks.

>>21106985 That would be kinda good, but I think that the classes should only have in game effects, like the breeder and coordinator, but the increased move pool is an unfair idea for online play.
