I agree OP. I never really liked the Kami trio that much. Their mouths are really weird and so are their markings. However different sprites would have helped them, Tornadus and Thundurus are meant to be pranksters, why are they so serious looking then?
You know the designs are kind of bland when they get new formes without any backstory whatsoever.

I think Sliggoo is the best part of the line. I had really high hopes for a badass dragon-typed slug 3rd stage after seeing it, instead we got a generic Dragon just covered in slime.

The Gen IV box legends are all horrible designs that clash with the entire rest of the Pokedex. Never before or since has the phrase "looks like a Digimon" actually applied to any group of Pokemon. I just don't even know how else to describe them, they look like nothing more than rejected Digimon - big detailed jagged metal anime dragons. What the hell was Gamefreak even thinking with these things? It's like they designed them for some completely unrelated project that got canceled so they crammed them into Pokemon, and that's why they don't fit the Pokemon aesthetic at all?

I think that's the point.

They're not supposed to look like normal Pokemon- they're interdimensional beings that operate and think on a completely inconceivable level to us. I personally like them for fulfilling the description of "otherworldly". Same with a good portion of Sinnoh's legendaries- they don't normally occupy our dimension, and are therefore radically different in design.

Gen 4's entire roster of legendaries
The genies, with their Therian formes being only a slight improvement.
Gen 4's starter trio, at least their first and second forms.Torterra, Infernape and Empoleon aren't as bad.
Carnivine, Mamoswine, Dragonite, Goodra.

I happen to really like Conkeldurr, so let me fire off a couple of things that may change your perspective. Not trying to be confrontational or anything.

When you put it all together, it's got the vibe of a cranky old codger who's been doing his job for way too long. I've known some people like that. They act like they hate their job, but they always take a lot of pride in what they do. Some of that attitude bled over into my view of old Conkeldurr.

That really depends though. Unless you play competitve/Battle facilities the rest of the games is a breeze.
