And I think I'm mainly using Cofagrigus, Spiritomb, and whatever 3rd thing. Cofagrigus can balk up the place, Spiritomb has best typing and STAB, and some other third thing has a good other third thing.

It does, but the thing about Prankster is that it only adds a +1 priority to those moves. Trick Room is like -7 priority. So you end up with -6 priority with Prankster.

I'd personally shy away from shadow claw unless you had some kind of speed support on your side, like sticky webs or thunder wave. Also not sure about protect. I mean I know why you have it there, but if you're going offensive, that protect either means a slot that's dead weight after one turn, or dead turns when you use it instead of something like sucker punch or d-bond.

My main concern here is Mgengar

I know that SE moves will be everywhere, but unless people bring Froslass (I highly doubt it...) it will be the fastest mon alive, and he shoots balls that can dent pretty much every team, shouldn't they ban the mega stones instead?

I'm not saying Gengar means 6-0 but a lot of battle will call for speed tie, and despite "muh build" it won't make the difference.

Trick Room users will rise and TR Cofagrigus is a serious threat you should all be aware of.

I hope we'll see original builds for Ghosts.

And since Mgengar ability doesn't trap, remember that Cofagrigus learns Infestation via TM

And if you manage to get a hypnosis mon around, Cofagrigus has access to Dream Eater, Nightmare and Hex.....

Since you're scarfed you could go modest for more damage. You would outspeed but if your opponent has a little investment in bulk you won't OHKO and it'll kill you with a shadow ball. I'm unsure how useful gengar will be in this meta

Best bet would be to go with a max HP & Sp.Def. Even with just 4 in attack it's enough to take out M-Gengar with max HP & Def in two turns, and it's Dazzling Gleam will do the same, though you'll have priority.

froslass is the only hazard setter available which might be useful since rapid spin cant be used and there are no ghost type defoggers other than drifblim
it also ties for the fastest thing available with gengar which means its good lead material considering that literally everything has coverage against everything else

mismagius has access to me first which will be really really good in a monoghost meta and is also fast, just behind gengar and froslass and tied with nothing

theyre both more viable than shit like dusknoir or shedinja

Well, everyone has to run a Gourgeist, so that's not good for Jellicent, but if you wanted to you've have to run Gengar or Chandelure to be sure to counter it. Though Pringles is faster than Jack-o-Lantern so as long as they don't invest in speed you'll be fine.

Mega gengar isn't that good looking considering it's slower than scarfed gengar and can't trap anything not like you'd ever need to use any move other than shadow ball either. Banette is probably the best mega with shadow sneak/shadow claw/destiny bond/will-o-wisp to cripple other shadow sneakers.

as it is phantom force is going to be a really shitty move because youre giving them a free chance to switch in something bulky with wp for a free boost, use sub to tank the move for free, boost with np, cm or something, etc
even if they cant switch in an immunity its still awful
theres a reason nobody seriously runs bounce, fly, etc, two turn moves are universally shitty, and the existence of protect isnt it

Well it has a psuedo lock. You Destiny Bond first and the foe will hesitate to KO and then you can use next turn knowing you'll get a guaranteed hit and if slower no damage as well. However Wil-O-Wisp fucks you over. Dont use it with Golurk. Iron First Shadow Punch hits more over 2 turns

If I can manage to be able to baton pass on turn 3(It should be safe to assume i'm getting hit by at least one SE move in shadow ball :the meta) to give a mega bannete(or other) with the benefits of amnesia, unburden, and a weakness policy.
Surviving 2 turns means I have to bank on getting hit with a SE move on the first turn for the pass.
Surviving 3 means I can amnesia first turn to see if they took the "bait" to activate unburden/weakness then pass on turn 2 knowing with relative safety that it wont die before the switch.

oh yeah, taunt sableye/spiritomb are a must, though with this kind of format (singls) setup-ing seems kind of unnecesary, believe me, on the fairy tournament, the first one to iron head with mawile was almost considered instawin, unless you had a perfect counter that couldn't be blocked by the imminent azumarill switch in

I'm guessing first turns will either be screen setups with dusknoir/dusclops/sableye or shadowball/shadow sneak attackers, and then sucker punching to death, so be ready for that

Yup, 36 EV gives a Modest Gengar 135 Speed, while Scarf multiplies it by 1.5.

135(1.5)= 202.5, which is 2 points faster that a Timid max Speed Mega Gengar.

Made a somewhat useful set for Gourgiest:

@Mental Herb
Frisk
Sassy
Max HP & Sp.Def/ 4 in Attack
-Phantom Force
-Light Screen
-Destiny Bond
-Taunt/Pain Split

With maximum HP and Special Defense Gourgiest can survive a Mega Gengar's Shadow Ball with just enough HP left to use Phantom Force to force your opponent to switch or just give up, as long as they don't have Substitute. Frisk helps a lot letting you know if the opponent is holding Specs or Weakness Policy, so you'll know what to switch in after they K.O. you. Light Screen is there to support your team, because everyone will be spamming Shadow Ball. D-Bond forces your opponent to either attack the next turn and faint (like an idiot), use a status move if they haven't already (which MH will most likely negate), or just switch out. If your opponent is a Sableye or you believe they'll use a status move, Taunt them. Mental Herb will come in handy if they try to do the same. Pain Split is there if you feel lucky and want to take on Cofagriegest, Aegislash (in Trick Room), or Spiritomb and absorb what HP you can't knock out that turn. Sassy is there you make you slower than Quiet Aegislash, so once they Shadow Ball or Claw you you can knock them out in their Blade form.

I'm stuck just outside of the Halloween Party ladder's top 5. I just can't seem to beat Sableye outside of dazzling gleam crits and stupid opponents and now that I'm facing people that actually know how to play the game the little gremlin seems insurmountable. What sort of sets are you seeing?

What about your own sableye with some speed creep?

What about putting toxic on something unexpected that has a free moveslot?

Taunt/Recover/Will-o-Wisp/attack seems to be the most common combination although taunt/recover might be all you need as i've seen people run two attacking moves out of knock off/sucker punch/foul play. I only encountered Double Team once and beat it easily as they kept greeding in my face until they died to repeated shadow balls. The scary thing was, most of the Sableye didn't run leftovers - they didn't need it. Speed creeping sableye with my own is the only idea I have of countering him right now so I'll test that out and report back later. Toxic is useless as they will always use taunt and since sableye has priority, well . . .

No, I didn't play 3 battles, I played for several hours with each match usually taking 10 turns or less. I lost track of how many battles there were. I didn't have too much trouble until I reached the top ten of the ladder. Sash Gengar/WP Aegislash/CroTomb was what I was using most of the time.

M-Banette still hits like a truck, especially with Phantom Force. Sableye is better for abusing Prankster, especially turn 1.

imprison stays in effect until banette is either switched out or KOd

I'd imagine a lot of things will only have either of those as coverage - I'd imagine there are a lot of aegislash that are only KS / SD / SS / SB, for example

Specs Chandelure seems to be the answer to Sableye as it can't be wisp'd, doesn't give a fuck about taunt, and can outspeed and OHKO (speed-creeping with your own Sableye works too if you win the taunt war). Specs also allow Chandelure to shift enough EV's to SDef to bulk MegaGengar's Shadow Ball (this made someone I faced on Showdown quite mad).

Personally, I think Scarf is too valuable on Chandelure to pass up. Outspeeding and OHKOing most enemy Gengars (without Sash or Scarf of their own) is hella useful.

Personally, I'm running my own Sableye as anti-Sableye with Lum Berry. Lead with your own Taunt - if they win the Speed Tie, sub to Chandelure to eat the the Will-o-Wisp, otherwise the berry takes care of Confuse Ray, Swagger, and Will-o-Wisp.
