imagine a main-series pokemon game where you have little side quests like the looker-emma one throughout the main game. of course, the main "storyline" would only be composed of the usual collecting of eight badges to reach the elite four, and not some villain who wants to destroy/take over the world. that would be nice. it would give a reason to revisit places and would lead to more NPC interaction

I think having optional side-quests parallel to the Gym Challenge would be fun. Such as:

Contests
>4/5 contests across the region
>consist of appeal + battle
>Grand Festival tournament at the end of the game

Pokeathlon
>separate mini-games in most towns
>collect 10 medals across region
>Olympic Pokethlon tournament at the end of the game

Battle Tents
>found in bigger cities across the region
>offer a range of mini-tournaments for Single, Double, Triple and Rotation battles
>you start off battling LV10 pokemon, and if you are successful you can move onto LV20 pokemon, then LV30 pokemon... all the way to unlocking LV100 pokemon battles.

Battle Frontier
>accessible mid-way through game
>gaining Gym badges unlocks facilities

In this way you get to complete multiple challenges as you progress and the game doesn't feel as linear or monotonous.

I think I'd like a small sidequest like the one with the girl and the hypno in sevii, that was fun.

I had this idea about a quest in a dig site, in which after you explored a bit you'd find some distressed archeologists and their camp thrashed because some Gabite came in and fucked up everything looking for shiny objects. Now they lost a lot of important stuff and artifacts and you have to go deeper. You fight some gabites, each one stronger than the last, until you get to fight a Garchomp.

In the end you hit their "treasure cave" with many items around, plus the archeologist's stuff. Maybe even a fossil

Or possibly, an early-game quest about two brothers fighting. The younger one runs off with his brother's pokemon because he wants to be a trainer, but has no idea what the fuck is he doing. He runs off into the nearby forest, and because the little ass stole his bro's pokemon, he can't go there and help. You go rescue the kid instead.

If you get there fast, he double-battles along with you on the way out. If you take your time, by the time you get to him, he's just sitting there, crying in a clearing and his pokemon fainted. Just eacort him out

And maybe a fisherman one. Their current fishing spot started to become really dangerous, huge waves and whirpools are dragging every boat down under, and not even with HMs they manage to get through. One of them gives you a ride and Dive so you can check it out (Dive wouldn't be a mandatory HM) and at the bottom, you'd find a couple of Kingdra fucking shit up with their yawns. Fuck them up, get a dragon scale and a king's rock or something. Also possibly unlocks a new sea route

Fine, last one because people are obviously not interested. This one is a lot less active and more like the "find the sages" aftergame in BW. Something to do with finding special artifacts spread through the region, relics or journals. Just a bit of lore-building, maybe you'd have to take them back to a certain place to be analyzed. Or maybe even to your secret base

Using your secret bases as an in-game analyzer....That's....Kinda cool, actually. Makes me think of the batcave. Maybe by the end of the game it could even have some informations on the evil team, like an archive of sort that the MC wrote himself

For example, let's say at the first or second town you help out some NPCs on a research of a nearby cave. In the next town or halfway through to the fourth, you could find them again, or NPCs of the same group working on another nearby mystery.

As you progress, if you help them out at every turn they'll start to remember you, and you get what is it that they are doing at all. By the time you're nearing the seventh gym they are full on expecting and asking for your assistance on a more profissional level, because shit is getting real. The places they need to get to have dangerous and strong pokemon and they need a good fighter to go first.

Maybe it's research linked to the legends of the game and their physical impact on the region. Or maybe what they are looking for is old discarded experiments of the resident evil team that got active again and are currently messing up with the ecosystem, and they need to take them out and study it. Just a thought
