Because I think in most versions it's depicted that Red either chooses bulbasaur himself or he picks charmander, making Green's pokemon squirtle.

Isn't Red's canon starter Bulbasaur? In the manga at least, I know in Origins he picks Charmander.

I think one of the reasons is that Blue/Green/Gary/anu incarnations all share one trait: He is always seen as a jerk who is ahead of you. Bulbasaur on the other hand is more of an underdog pok´€mon and wouldn't fit very well with his personality. (Although Venusaur is arguably the strongest without Mega Evolution).

Yeah, in the Sugimori art, Red picks Bulbasaur and Blue choose Charmander.

The only reason it's ok in this thread is because its about all his incarnations.
Both Blue and Green are real name of the same game character so they can both be used, however anyone calling the game version Gary will surely be called out.
