Kalos =/= France, and Unova =/=
Europe and N.America don't exist in Pokémon.
After the success of Gen 1, the creators decided that the Pokémon World would be its own thing, with it's own geography, rather than places within the real world. The regions draw inspiration from locations in the real world, but don't abide to the geography.
So Kalos could very well be near to Unova.
The anime also reflects this. After Gen 1, both the games and anime stopped referencing real world locations almost completely. The anime movies are often inspired by real world locations (Heroes is Venice for example), but it doesn't mean Ash & friends went to Venice. They went to Alto Mare, a fictional city that is nearby or part of, the Johto Region, that was inspired and interpreted as the Pokémon version of Venice.
Kalos, Unova, and the other regions follow this. The regions may draw inspiration, and be the equivalent of real world locations, but the creators aren't going to limit themselves by mirroring the Pokémon World to ours.
