Considering at the exact moment it happens some people call for him over the radio, I'd say it's the sounds the of the radio. A splash wouldn't even sound like that, but you never know with the poor sound quality on the DS.

The Celebi event is to the past, to the time Ethan or Lyra were fighting team rocket, it's before Gen 2/4 ends, which is before BW starts according to the official timeline.

Because Team Rocket calls for him over the radio, and says they have control of the Goldenrod Radio Tower. I don't know what time BW2 takes place in, but the celebi event takes place during the HGSS timeline.

A real life situation like that isn't going to have amazing dialog between them where they have long, well-thought paragraphs to say to each other. It's short, and out of anger, like in the event.

I really think it was just the sound of the radio static, because right as the sound is played, the Rocket admins are speaking on the radio again.
Also, a splash on the DS would be able to sound like water, and the sound we hear doesn't surely sound like a splash.

Even so if you follow the suicide theory, he could've just jumped to swim away.

iirc in the HGSS manga, Gold faces off against Arceus who RECREATES the Creation Trio. This means possibly that Dialga/Palkia/Giratina didn't even (re)exist until the end of HGSS arc and that the Sinjoh event was a precursor to DPPt.
