They were ok, the evil team was weak. The story was forced so hard on you it was hard to care, the game pretty much cared for you. I was never into Unova, but i get its charm.

Not my favorite games, but they aren't the worst. I get why some people like them so much.

The only two things bad about gen 5 was the uninteresting circular region and the shitty starters.

It had a great diverse selection of Pokemon, possibly the best since gen 1 and the music was fucking amazing.

The monkeys, the fighting horses, the clouds, the garbage... So laaaaame in design.
Gen 1- OG, introduced base of game. Most important and memorable.
Gen 2- introduced held items, genders, breeding, time and day elements, shinies, and post game side plot.
Gen 3- introduced natures, abilities, double battles, weather, and in depth plot.
Gen 4- introduced moves being physical or special, 3D attributes, online battle and trading, first game with touch screen, and Diamond and Pearl have the most Pokémon available in game at 400. Also, HGSS Pokémon walking mechanic.
Gen 5- Introduced triple and rotation battles, seasons changing... And...
Gen 6- Megas, Fairies, complete 3D design, trainer customization, better use of friends, better EV and breeding mechanics, Pokébank, sky battles, and hordes.
Gen 5 matters the least.

HGSS has best overall content that you don't have to wait till post game for.
Platinum and Emerald have more content post game, but you don't feel like you had to wait for it.
BW2 are only worth buying and playing for the post game content.

That sucks. B/W/BW2 are pretty great. It was pretty novel going through a region with only new Pokemon.

The exp gain pretty much made leveling not a pain in the ass if you pick up a new Pokemon later in the game. Only issue was the stupidly high evolution levels for some of the late-game Pokemon.

Gen 1 Lame designs:
Raticate, Clefable, Wigglytuff, and Persian are boring evolutions.
Voltorb, Electrode, Seel, and Dewgong are awful.
Hypno, Lickitung, and Jynx creeped me out as a kid.

Gen 5 designs that I think are good:
Kyurem, Hydregion, Golurk, Haxorus, Chandelure, Galvantula, Reunclius, Lilligant, and Cofagrigus

Pokémon designs aside, Gen 5 still has the least improvement and impact from one generation to the next.
I'll agree that the ability to have random battles was important, and that hidden abilities changed the viablity of a lot of Pokémon.
Maybe by gen 5 GF was satisfied with the in game mechanics.
But honestly, the games were boring to play, the Pokémon seemed deprived of originality, and the story was overbearing.
It was disappointing going from Platinum to HGSS to BW.

Their far from the best in my opinion.
The story was the biggest flaw, both BW and BW2 had too pretentious stories and N was either talked about or showed up himself everywhere. The games could have been called Pokemon N and Pokemon N2 and it would make more sense.
Another problem is the sprites. The godawful sprites. It the only generation where they look shittier than in the previous one.
I also didn't particularly like the style of the gen V Pokemon and it was horrible that you couldn't catch anything else in BW.

Unova's story is the only one I consider a real failure because it was bad despite GameFreak hyping it up to be an at least decent story and even went to the extent of paying all those reviewers to say that the story was more "mature" and complex.

I don't like the gym leaders but they weren't forgettable. Roxies gym was great and Iris and Alder are the most memorable of the past 5 champs. Iris because you see her develop as a trainer and Alder because of his role in the plot.

The most boringly designed gen was surely 6.

nothing in the series felt like a more complete game than BW2,while they arent my favorite I do think they are perfect games, that's why I got shocked when X/Y came out, XY has like 3x less content
