In terms of concept I couldn't agree more.
Lickitung is based on those youkai with long tongue, if anything an evolution would want a longer tongue or two of them. They literally ruined the concept and made it "it just get bigger". Rhyperior is the same thing, Rhydon was all about the drill and piercing stuff meanwhile this guy goes full "you know it? I'm going to shot geodudes now because".

Also Magmortar is pretty ugly, it looks like that mom from Tom & Jerry
