I've always thought Haunter had the cooler design. Looks much less like a fat hedgehog, and more like a ghost.

Gonna have to agree. Gengar's not bad, but Haunter's probably my favourite ghost.

The floating hands in particular have always looked cool as fuck to me.

I preferred Haunter for the longest time, but Gengar's grown on me recently. It's seeing his animated sprite in BW jumping around that did it for me I think.

Indeed, Gengar's sprite has improved with age. Though, Pokemon Stadium has the best attack animation for Gengar

Which animation? The raised hackles > tongue spit one?

I'm not sure that I remember any of Gengar's attack animations from XY, but I kinda like that his idle animation, the hip wiggle, returned.

My favorite is the pokeball animation. Silly Gengar is upside-down.
