To recruit them, you'll need a Level 100 holding the Friend Bow.
In Darkness/Time/Sky, it's even harder to pull this off.
You'll need (preferably) Mew at Level 100 with the Fast Friend Trait and a Golden Mask.
The Keks are even more durable and powerful here, so you'll also want to invest in maximizing Mew's offensive stats.
Meanwhile, in Gates, it's just not possible to even fight back against them, so recruiting is far, FAR out of the question.
